When i stop for awhil and then i take off it smokes like a blue color it only happens when the engine is hot not cold people have told be it's the valve stem seals and others have told me its the piston rings

white=coolant
blue=oil
black=fuel

What is the problem if i start my car if its cold and it smokes blue white smoke but if engin is hot it stops smoking but valve tem seals have been done and there is no play on pistons

Hi There,, with regards to the blue smoke when starting the engine from cold but none when warmed up, it could be the valve stem guide oil seals. you may need to remove the cylinder head and lap the valves in again but it should last you another 100,000 miles.

didn t say what color smoke --if you start up on cold or damp days and get a small white or steam looking discharge from tail pipe than your burning out/off the moisture that has accumulated in the exhaust system when all moisture gone smoke gone ---white alot- billowy-and doesnt stop burning coolant -water/anti-freeze-leak in coolant or the famous blown head gasket ----black smoke and not a diesel carbon build up and or need tuneup---blue smoke burning oil something in engine is damaged and allowing oil into cylinder and is being burnt

Hi :) What is happening? you say Well when you shut the engine down the oil is hot and it runs by the valve stems because the stem guides are warren out and sits on the piston till you start the engine next time. It take a bit to burn it off then it burns clean till the next time you stop running the engine for any lenght of time.Take it in to the shop and have new valve guides put in it or unbrella seals put on under the valve spring this will stop the oil from leaking past the valve stems. I put a cup of transmission oil/Fluid/Dexron2/3 every time i change my oil to keep my valve seals soft and rubbery and it helps

It sounds like you have brought a lemon as if it hard to start when cold then its lacking compression which is worn engine piston rings and valve guides,and if it starts smoking when driving and if its BLUE smoke then its bad piston rings And if its BLACK smoke then its to much petrol getting into the engine which will also cause the engine to wear out quick as its washing the bores with fuel instead of oil,and that will also stop the engine from starting when hot,
SO if its BLUE smoke replace the engine
If BLACK smoke repair fuel fault.

If the smoke is white you have a blown head gasket and unless you have been driving it in this condition for awhile it may only need a new gasket. You will have to open it up to find out. Black smoke indicates an overly rich fuel/air mixture and Blue smoke indicates oil burning.

You have to determine why it is smoking and what the smoke means. White smoke almost always means you have coolant entering the combustion chamber. The exhaust will smell sweet. I am not referring to the white smoke you see when it is cold and stops after awhile, as that is condensation. I am talking about white smoke you see when it is not cold. Stop driving the car immediately or you will have serious engine damage.
Black smoke is the result of an overly rich fuel/air mixture and can be caused by many things.
Blue smoke is an indication the engine is burning oil. Normally caused by worn piston rings.
