You could have a malfunctioning Shift Solenoid(s) in your transmission, take your truck to a Transmission Shop or a reputable Mechanic to have it diagnosed properly.
Problem is that when Chevy built these trucks they actually used ALUMIUM gears! They is updated were you can change them to steel gears! dear . start engine then shift revers gear , apply brake then refill ATF more till its full , then shift at P . road test , check how , all problem
ATF was low level
sounds like a servo or sensor problem more than a transfer case. try removing all electrical plugs to t case run it through the gears then replace one by one to see if there is a problem there.
