Where is the cabin air filter located on a 2001 4runner? I openned the glove box where I expected it to be, but nothing looks like it can be openned behind the glove box.

The cabin air filter is located behind the glove box. Open it then empty all contents. Grab both sides inside the box and push them inward. The glove box will then drop out further. On the left side is a catch cable. Slide that down and pull it out. The box should then just pull out. The cover for the filter is rectangular and gray or black color. On the left side push the tab toward the passenger door and pull toward you. You will either find nothing or a screen. Discard the screen and insert the new filter.
2011 Ford Edge cabin air filter removal and replacement

Hi. The 2006 Kia sorento is not equipped wiht a cabin air filter. Only the 07 and 08 sorentos are equipped wiht this filter. With that said; If your vehicel had a filter, it would be located just behind the glove box. If you were to access it for replacment, you would Open the glove box and remove the side stops so the glove box can swing fully down and hang on its hinges. Once that is done, you will be able to access to the cabin air filter and the clips which hold it in place.

The cabin air filter is located behind lower (larger) glove box.

Open the glove box, detach lever (right side). After unhooking both sides of the box (press towards inside) it will come out.
The filter element easily comes out (as drawer).

Slide in the new element, put back the glove box and attach the lever.

It will either be behind your glove box, or will be located under your hood by the firewall.

Behind the Glove Compartment
1. Open the glove compartment and remove all the items from inside of it.
   
2. Remove the glove compartment assembly retainer screws with a Phillips head screwdriver. Refer to the repair manual for your specific year and model series BMW for the exact location of the screws or carefully look around the perimeter of the interior glove box assembly to locate the screws.
   
3. Locate the lower trim panel retaining screws behind the glove box assembly. Remove the screws with a Phillips head screwdriver and then remove the panel.
   
4. Remove the foot-well air duct.
   
5. Loosen the retaining screws of the control module box to all you to lower it down.
   
6. Turn the cabin air filter panel retaining knob counterclockwise to open the panel. Pull the filter removal tab outward to remove the filter.
   
7. Use a shop vac to clean out any noticeable debris from the cabin air filter housing interior.
   
8. Insert the new filter and reverse the order to reassemble the foot-well air duct, the trim panel and the glove compartment assembly.
   
Under the Hood
9. Open the hood and locate the cabin air filter housing. The housing is located near the cowling on the top section of the firewall. Some models place the housing in the middle of the cowling, on both sides--left and right--of the cowling or on the passenger side cowling. Removal of the cowling and placing the windshield wipers in the upward position may also be required on certain models. Some 7-Series BMWs place the filter housings on both the left and right side undercarriage of the hood.
   
10. Release the cabin air filter duct clamp. This can either be released by unclipping the air filter duct by pressing a retaining lock with your fingers or using a flathead screwdriver to pry off a retaining rod.
    
11. Lift the cover upward--or downward on hood-installed 7-Series BMWs--to reveal the cabin air filter.
    
12. Remove the cabin air filter from the air duct. Vacuum the air duct with a shop vac.
    
13. Insert the new cabin air filter(s) and reassemble.
    

check behind glove box at top of black coil housing, look for door/cover 

I have an 06 corrolla. Open the glove box, empty it out, and on both sides you will find philips head screws holding the supports. Once removed the glove box will tip forward and expose the cover of the cabin air filter. Carefully remove the cover and pull out the filter.(note the directional arrows of the filter as you remove it) Installation is a reversal of the above.

Hi, this cabin filter is not the air filter, this is the A/C filter located behind the glovebox, remove a couple of screws and a bigger nutt, and the filter is located in a vertical box.

Open the glove box

Remove all of the contents in the glove box

On the right side, dis-engage the rod going to the split plastic pin on the glove box door

Squeeze both other sides of the glove box to defeat the stops that keeps the glove box from falling open

Observe the box in the area vacated by letting the glove box drop down, this is the heater box

Locate a rectangular cover (approx 7 " x 2"), it is located on the face of the box; facing you.

Pull this cover out towards you, the cabin air filter is located in the tray that is connected to this rectangular cover.

This should help you replace it.

If you have a cabin air filter, it will be located behind the glove box. You need to open the glove box, remove all of the contents, disengage the rod at the right side, and squeeze in on both of the sides towards the center of the box, this defeats the "stops" that keep it from falling out when opened. Let the box door swing down. Right behind the opening left by moving the glove box down & out of the way is the heater box. Look for a rectangular tray, on the box, facing you, pull it straight out towards you. The cabin air filter is located in this tray, if you have one.
No tray = no filter.
