1971 cadilac distributor cap wiring diagram. All that we need to know is the order

Cannot find a diagram, but the firing order is 1 - 3 - 4 - 2. Looking at a picture, the #1 wire goes to the back of the distributor, just above the vacuum advance unit. With the distributor cap off, see which way the rotor turns, clockwise or counter clockwise, then follow the other plug wires based on this information.

The firing order for a Dodge 318cid/5.2L is 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2 clockwise rotation.
Cylinders are numbered like this.
Pass side 2-4-6-8 front to rear.
Driver side 1-3-5-7 front to rear.
The firing order is probably forged into the intake manifold. Number one tower on the distributor cap is the one facing the number one plug or the driver-side headlight.

The correct position often gets altered, over time.
The fast and easy method is to pull the #1 spark plug, put finger over hole, bump over engine (coil wire grounded) until you are on the compression stroke of the #1 cylinder.... Line up timing marks on harmonic balancer, and the rotor will need to be pointing to the position of the #1 plug wire on the cap.
The location of the #1 wire on the cap is not critical, as long as the above condition is met. the rest of the wires follow in order, should be 18436572.

Here is the firing order diagram for the 5.0 liter (305), 5.7 liter (350) and the 7.4 liter (454) V-8 engines (note position of locking latches/screws between the 3 and 6 and the 1 and 2 terminals on the distributor cap). Here is the firing order for that vehicle and engine, that is if it does have a Buick engine with the distributor mounted on the front of the engine, but if the distributor is mounted on the back of the engine then it is an Oldsmobile engine and I have that firing order diagram also if you require it.

Firing order is 18435672 driverside is 1357 passenger side 2468 Usually number 1 is stamped on the cap it should run in a clockwise fashion.

Normally the firing order will be stamped on the top of the intake manifold also the number one plug will be the front one on the drivers side of the car. On the top of the distributor cap you should see a number one that is where the number one plug wire goes follow the firing order on the manifold and go clock wise on the distributor cap
