Have 77 chevy crew with manul tran want to put auto trans out of 90 burb it has cable kickdown and i know that plug with the 3 wire has to do with overdrive but what else doese it need power can it be switched need to know how it work what it does any help would be great thanks
The cable on the 90 Suburban is not a kick-down cable, it is a TV cable (Throttle Valve) cable and it controls the amount of fluid line pressure through the transmission according to the throttle position, and if it is not properly adjusted the transmission will have shifting problems and it will lead to early failure of the transmission.
The electrical connection on the side of the transmission is for the electrical solenoids inside of the transmission that the computer uses to monitor and control the shifting and the kick-down.
The best thing for that truck would be a good Turbo 400 transmission.
You will be able to find a Turbo 400 transmission from an older 70's Suburban 4x4 with a 454 engine, and that transmission will already be adapted for use on a transfer case, and the only thing that is used to adapt the transmission for use on a transfer case is the rear extension housing on the transmission.
The only thing to be concerned about would be the diameter of the output shaft of the Turbo 400 transmission, and that transmission came with either a large diameter output shaft for heavy duty applications, or a smaller diameter output shaft that is the same diameter as a Turbo 350 or a 700-R4 transmission.
You will need to match the diameter of the output shaft on the transmission that was attached to the transfer case that you are going to use, or you can measure the input yoke inside of the tranfer case that you are going to use.
Also, if you are using transmissions from the 70's you should not have much difficulty in finding a Turbo 400 that will fit your truck.
