I have a 2001 volvo V70 wagon. Keep getting the message "break failure stop ASAP" along with the warning symbol, ABS symbol and the STC symbol. This will come on randomly then shut off again. Have had brakes checked, seem to be fine . Brake fluid level is fine. Does this have something to do with the sensor? Shoul I have the sensor replaced? This all started when I accidently left the parking brake on for about 4 kilometres.

So many lame responses...I went through this same experience and can tell you in my case it was the alternator. All of the warning lights such as the ABS light, airbag light, the warning about the brakes are all because the alternator is not providing the DC voltage all of the car's sophisticated electronics need to correctly monitor these subsystems' status. Mine left me high and dry by the side of Interstate 5 needing a tow. The low battery warning was off and on for about an hour before all of the other warning lights came on, and then about 5 minutes later every needle on the dash went to zero and the car died. After sitting waiting for the tow, it did start up again, but we got it towed to a dealer (thank god it got us within 8 miles of a dealer! the first warnings started when we were in the sticks) who diagnosed it as an alternator. $1200 and two days later and all is well again.
having the same problem with my 1999 s80 2.9 . replaced the abs module twice and still get the brake failure warning. when the ignition key is turned there is a clicking sound from the center console beneath the shifter, then the brake failure warning, and the car will not start. (also after the last abs module replacement the car sometimes gets stuck in park).
I have had the same problem with my car for 3 months now. It is the ABS module that needs to be replaces. Ignore the stop ASAP light the brakes will still function as standard brakes. You just don't have ABS brake functionality or STC when those lights are on. Your car should still drive fine. Go on line and order a rebuilt ABS module for about $200 and the problem is solved. Hope that helps.
i had a problem in my S80 .Abs ,STC Brake failure, check Engine and speedometer all of tese didn't work , i just changed the ABS module...it's done now :) just perfect
WHAT HAPPENED IS WHEN YOU SHUT DOWN AND RESTARTED YOU (RESET THE ENGINE MANAGEMENT COMPUTER) AND THE SERVICE LIGHT SHOULD GO OUT AFTER 10 MINUTES OF DRIVING
Your ABS Computer is likely failing. They have problems with the solder joints on the circuit board, causing a code to be set and the lights to come on. Very common on this vehicle!
