1989 v6 camry engine missfire

I have a 1989 v6 camry engine running on 5 cylinders. As i accelerate under load it is very prominant. Plugs are good, compression is good, leads good, dissy cap good, rotor button good except for a slight crack in the top bakerlight, pulled all the plug leads off to determine which cylinder was not firing. During the cylinder diagnostics, noticed that 5 cylinders had a strong blue spark and 1 a weak white spark which was the cylinder missfiring. put all the plug leads back on now 2 cylinders have a weak white spark and are not firing.

I am leaning towards the coil being on its way out?

No your problem is definately the dizzie cap, as i found out to my cost on a lansia beta. any kind of crack in ur dizzie will cause probs. best way to find out is park your car in the dark open bonnet with engine running then get a mist spray with water in it spray at dizzie and you will see a slight yellow arc around the crack! any crack in bakelite distributors leads to loss of one or more banks

no i would first get a water mist sprayer then park up in the dark and spray the mist @ the bakelite and dizzie and you should see a dull yellow spark[arc even] where it comes from and my bet is the dizzie and the crack if this doesnt work nothing will! but it has saved me a few quid in the past. your coil is fine your car run doesnt it? if it was coil failure the car woulnt run at all.

My 1989 Camry LE V6 has 276,000 kms original owner, regular maintenace and oil changes every 3,500 kms and is sluggish in acceleration. I have installed new spark plugs and wires, flushed the transmission...

Have you try putting some Fuel System Cleaner addictive? If you have, then you haven't really try the only one that works -- Lucas Oil brand "Upper Cylinder & Fuel Injector Cleaner"

It is the best one and only one that works effectively. 3oz. will treat a 10 gallon gas tank. A small bottle cost $6 or you better buy a big 32oz. bottle for $12. Keep it and do it every other oil change.

If I were you, I will put it into two tank of gas back-to-back so your car's fuel system can get a good cleanup over a couple hundred of miles.

Misfire on cylinder 4 only when accelerating

Try a compression test. You could have a bent valve or a bad ring on the piston. If the compression test shows it to be much lower than the other cylinders then its a mechanical problem. The valve may not be seating or a weak spring isn't allowing the valves to close and its leaking under load.

1989 ford f150 w/ 5.0 liter..... engine light on

I would check the oil pressure of the engine. The reason is the timing chain tensioners are run with oil pressrue. I think your timing chain tensioners are leaking down when engine is getting to operating tempature . The oil is thinning down as warms up , as it should to lubercate . I would check compression and do a cylinder leak down test on all the cylinders. Then if the compression is good and the cylinder leak down is good. I would change all the timing components, ( chain, timing gears, timing chain tensioners )

Good Luck , I hope this helps.
