I have a 1999 chevy express 1500 van with 5.7L engine. When engine is not hot it will not start without starting fluid, when warm starts ok. After it is started it runs fine under normal driving but if I floor the accelerator it bogs down. If I do fast acceleration but not flooring it it accelerates fine. I have replaced the fuel filter and before this happened I was close to running out of gas and added some gas from gas can that was about 6 months old. Air filter is clean, no check engine light and no error codes when I check the computer

1999 chevy 1500 express van, trys to start but stops, the fuel pump is new, i think it is electrical.

Has your Check Engine or Service Engine Soon light come on? If so, there is a code stored in your van's onboard computer. Have that code read and interpreted at any large auto parts store, and either arrange to have the problem repaired or repost with the code number. If no code is present, we have a whole new ball game.

1999 chevy 2500 express van 5.7 litre wont start have spark recent tune up tried starting fluid

Please throw away that starting fluid. (Damages the engine more than anyone will ever know). Engines need 3 things to run: Fuel, Spark and Air. If you have a few minor tools check to see if you are getting a spark (or "current" through the wires using a tester for that), make sure she's getting fuel (clogged mini-fuel filter or maybe bad fuel pump/filter?) Air? That means you need to somehow ensure that when the #1 cylinder hits 'top dead center' that the valve for that piston is opening shortly and supplying the air. Otherwise ...no "putt-putt". Best of luck....

1999 chevy express 1500 van hard to start when cold. will start up fine with a shot of starting fluid. no engine codes. starts fine when warm

I had same issue. I thought it was a fuel delivery problem but I then noticed that while I had it on a battery charger it started up immediately. I noticed that the speed of the starter/flywheel was significantly quicker leading to the conclusion that the battery just needs to have more cranking amps. When I told this to a mechanic friend of mine he told me that it had something to do with the computer and that I just needed a better battery, more cranking amps. I just bought a battery today might even get a bigger one

HARD TO START LIKE NOT GETTING FUEL

The van will start fine for periods of 2 - 3 weeks then will turn over & won't start. Usually within the next day or two it will start & run fine
& the cycle repeats. This has been going on since Jan. I've had it towed 5 times, looked at by 2 different mechanics & a chev dealership
mechanic. Still nobody has a clue whats going on. The van has 94,000
miles & besides this problem runs fine. I've had it for almost 7 years
without any other problems. This is beyond the point of being frustrating. I use the van for my business & its embarrasing when
I have to get it towed from a customers house. If anyone has any
ideas it would be greatly appreciated. Thank You, Bob

Engine idles high when first started after tune up and takes long for kick down

Hi edsan 58,

Most gas injected engines run at a higher speed when started from cold....It's the cold start application working....As long as the idle speed returns to normal within a minute or two....longer when the weather is colder.....nothing to worry about
