94 blazer, replaced ignition modual. when engine gets warm it shuts down. its not overheating. whats wrong with it?
Most likely the cause of the ignition module burning out is because of the ignition coil, and you should try replacing the ignition coil and the ignition module both together, and be sure to clean out the distributor mounting suface, and be very certain that you do completely cover the metal mounting surface of the ignition module with the silicone grease or die-electric compound. Also be sure that you do not ov er-tighten the ignition module because you could damage it and cause a lot of similar problems.
Also;
Make sure that the distributor does have a good solid ground, and a poorly grounded distributor can also cause the ignition module to overheat, and the pick-up coil inside of the distributor could also short out the ignition module and cause it to overheat, and if that is the case then you should replace the distributor.

Did you replace the ignition module inside of the distributor? Did you clean the mounting surface inside of the distributor, and did you use the die-electric grease or compound (which ever one came with the ignition module) to completely cover the mounting surface on the underside of the ignition module before you installed the ignition module? If you did not use the die-electric grease/compound on the new module then it will not last very long because that die-electric grease/compound is actually a heat sink and it keeps the module from over heating and burning out.
Yes, I did all of those things. I noticed when I installed the new module,the grease was dark brown like it was burnt. I used the grease upon installing the new module, and it worked great for a few weeks. Now, it is doing the same thing all over again. It gets hot (without the engine over heating), and shuts down. I have to wait for it to cool off before being able to start the engine and drive. What could be causing the module to get overheated and shut down?
