The coolant is leaking at the top front driver's side. Right up at the front of the engine compartment. There is molding in the way of viewing specifically where the leak is but I see evidence of the coolant having sprayed to on top of that molding. A puddle is also left directly under that spot,( front driver's side).
It began small but am now going through a gallon of coolant every week. Help please.
I have same car and same problem, i fill a gallon of antifreez a week. Thermostat, Radiator changed still same problem. I also suspect it is water pump please tell me some cheap way to fix it.I have same car and same problem, i fill a gallon of antifreez a week. Thermostat, Radiator changed still same problem. Was the coolant old and weak? At ten degrees, a weak coolant could result in freezing and that can cause an engine freeze plug to burst open. Check the side of the engine block for signs of leakage around the freeze plugs. Another possibility is the heater hoses. They run along the passenger side of the engine as well. The last possibility is the heater core. If it leaks you may smell coolant inside the passenger compartment. You MAY get a wet floorboard on the passenger side. Coolant leaking from the core usually will fall into the condensation pan for the A/C and run out of the passenger compartment thru the firewall on the passengers side.
CAR OVERHEATING FIRST CHECK FOR LOW COOLANT IN THE RADIATOR COOLANT OVERFLOW JUG.IF COOLANT LEVEL IN OVERFLOW JUG LOW REFILL ADD COOLANT BACK TO THE FULL COLD MARK.PUT RADAITOR CAP ON COOLANT OVERFLOW JUG START ENGINE LET IT IDLE UNTIL IT OPERATING TEMPERATURE.MAKE SURE TOP RADIATOR HOSE GETTING HOT WHILE ENGINE WARM UP.IF TOP RADIATOR HOSE DONT GET HOT WHILE ENGINE IDLING YOUR THERMOSTAT COULD BE STUCK CLOSE CAUSING CAR TO OVERHEAT.IF TOP HOSE IS GETTING HOT.CHECK FOR COOLANT LEAKS CHECK TOP RADIATOR HOSE AND BOTTOM RADIATOR HOSE FOR LEAKS.CHECK FOR LEAKS AT THE RADIATOR CORES AND PLASTIC SIDE CONTAINERS.IF ALL IS GOOD ENGINE OVERHEATING WHILE IN A LONG TRAFFIC LINE, COOLANT FANS NOT COMING ON.COULD HAVE FAULTY ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR OR BLOWN COOLING FAN FUSE OR RELAY.COULD HAVE PCM FAULT.MAKE COOLING FAN ELECTRICAL CONNECTORS AND WIRING NOT DAMAGE OR BROKEN.
Are you asking where to actually put the coolant in or asking why your coolant is needing to be replaced often? If you are not sure where the coolant goes - it goes in the radiator. Should be in the front of the engine compartment, has a cap on top of it (either in the middle or on one side) with warnings about not opening of overheated. Unscrew the top & follow any mixing instructions on the coolant labels. If you are loosing coolant & don't know why: Check coolant levels first, look for any leaks from hoses (make sure your connections are tight & hoses are not cracked/busted), check for leaks from the radiator itself (any holes or cracks), check the fan (is it turning like it should with the motor running), check the fan belt (is it broken). If all these things check out - get your water pump checked (if it's out, water is not getting to/circulating around like it should). If it's not the water pump, you may have a cracked head gasket. Check the easy stuff first though - good luck.
Add Coolant to spherical reservoir at right rear of engine compartment as viewed from front. If it is low the coolant gauge flashing light will warn you of a low condition.
If the coolant is leaking into the vehicle, I assume the passenger side, then more than likely it is the heater core. There are two possible fixes, the first, is to remove the dashboard, costly. Or, second bypass the heater core, the only problem with that is, you won't have any heat in the passenger compartment. So depending where you live that is a call of personal comfort. That should FixYa.
You need to replace the upper intake manifold. The coolant will get on top of the pistons and they will not fire. Take all of the plugs out and turn over to get the coolant out and put new ones back in after the new manifold is put on. You can break the starter housing if you don't get the coolant out. A common problem with this engine but the new manifold has been re-designed to last longer.
Having coolant leaking problems, everytime the car runs it runs hot, coolant filled, when car is then turned off coolant leaks out on drivers side underneath radiator. Hissing sound also on drivers side when running hot.
