When it won't start does the engine crank over with the starter motor but just not fire up? this is called a "crank no start" please give more detailed info, thanks

  • Anonymous Jun 02, 2010

yes the engine will crank over with the starter motor but not fire up so have to roll down hill to start. Only happens when engine switched of for a short while

I would have the battery professionally tested for a poss dead cell, if that is ok and the battery cables are clean and tight replace the starter, starters always act up when they are hot.

What I would do is test the fuel pressure when it does not start or spray some brake cleaner. If it starts with brake cleaner then I would suspect a weak fuel pump. If still no start i would suspect a faulty ignition module if applicabe or a faulty coil.

Now if your saying the battery is loosing power over time and thats why you have to jump start it then I would charge the battery fully. Using a 12v meter hook to the battery. Turn only the headlights on for 3 minutes. This is to remove what we call tghe surface charge. Then turn the lights off. Now looking at the meter you should have 12.5v or more. Then start cranking the engine while still looking at the meter. If it drops to below 10v within seconds then the battery is toast. If it stays up over 12v then do the test again after you drive the vehicle and then allow the car to sit for awhile.. If still good then I would suspect a faulty starter or bad battery cables. To test,, with a jumper cable hooked to battery ground and the other end to the engine try again when its sat for awhile. If it starts with the added ground then clean all cable connections. You may need to replace the ground cable.

after rethinking this I suspect a fuel pump or igniton issue like starter or coil. When these things get hot they tend to give more problems. The fact that you can jump it and it starts makes me think battery cable or starter issue. But if you spray that will illiminate it being a fuel pump issue if it still does not start.

i changed the battery about 4 months ago and 3weeks ago the renault garage put a new starter belt in. When you start the car the engine turns over but sometimes wont start which is why i have to jump start

Torque settings 08 reg renault megane

Hi Paul

Sure no problem, only one small thing
Provide your VIN number in other terms vehicle identification number with the VIN I would know exactly which model you have engine installed gearbox installed and certain other factors, you can leave out the last six numbers for they are not necessary and are the serial number of your car look for something starting with VF1.
An adhesive label bearing the car's identity card can be found on the B-pillar or an adhesive label with the VIN can be located at the bottom - left of the windscreen.

It is essential for me to give the correct information!

Renault megane scenic 1.9 dt r reg 1997 cold start problems

This being a diesel, lack of compression is your worst enemy. These symptoms sound like a blown head gasket. Check your coolant for signs of oil, and check your oil for signs of coolant. (oil will be milky looking) Also indicative of a head gasket problem is an oil or coolant leak from the engine as well. If you see no evidence of the above, have a compression test done, and it should show up.

Imobliser on my renault megane cabriolet 1998 r reg wont turn off

the pins on the lazer bulb in your keyfob has snapped off caused buy pressing the button too hard. (the red light will still come on but the key wont work)

heres what to do

open your keyfob and pull the lazer bulbs pins to the other side of the chip board. solder it to the wrong side where you see the nipples (dont worry there still in the right place) and shove a bit of bog roll in there to stop the chip board moveing when you press the button
