Actually...tapping it sometimes needs to turn into wacking it. Seriously.....

Also, to check and see if it is faulty, you can "clack it" with a screwdriver....meaning, touching the screwdriver from the frame to the solenoid at the same time. If it starts...then your starter solenoid is bad.

I turn the key and it just clicks

Your battery is dead. Jump it or replace the battery.
also your starter motor could be seized in place. The clicking you are hearing is the starter solenoid trying to click the power over to the starter, and rotate the engine. You are lacking the power needed to turn the engine. Try tapping on the starter with a hammer a few times. This may loosen things up

Tuck wont start just clicks

Starter or starter selonoid going bad. Try tapping the starter a few times with something. NOTE: I SAID TAP NOT HAMMER. Also use caution where you tap and with what you tap with, you may damage parts or get shocked if you use metal and touch the terminals. I'd suggest a wood broom handle and tap the body of the starter. GL

2004 ion won't start. Lights work. When I turn key don't get series of clicks, get one snap.

That symptom usually means the solenoid on the starter is bad and no longer is completing the circuit to engage the starter. A new starter will likely solve that issue. A series of rapid clicks would indicate a week battery. You can try repeatedly turning the key to the start position rapidly, sometimes the starter wil start working. You can also try tapping the starter while somebody holds the key in the start position, if the starter engages place it.

1990 ford tempo wont start there is a ticking in the solinoid for the starter on driver side fender car will not turn over any suggestions

If the solinoid if clicking, sounds as thought the impellar is stuck. Try having someone turn over the car while you take a hammer and tap the starter at the same time. If the car turns over, you will have to replace the starter. You can usually get a few starts out of the tapping method before the starter fails.

Feedback is appreciated.

Car wont turn over!!!!!!!!!!

Based on what you described, sounds like you need a starter. The solenoid is not engaging the starter with the engine, tapping it will work for a while but eventually the starter will die or "freewheel" which it sounds like yours is doing.

1999 Maxima - Sometimes it does not start.

It sounds like you have bad contacts in the starter assembly, next time it wont start tap the starter and try again, it most likely needs a starter replacement.
