I have a 2003 Nissan Sentra GXE 1.8l. Yesterday when I would start it up, it would crank for about 5-10 seconds before it would start. This morning it just kept cranking and wouldn't start. After a while I smelled fuel and knew it was flooded so I stopped trying. I pulled the spark plugs, one was black with carbon and the other three were wet with fuel. What could be the problem? Is it a common problem with Nissans?

I have the same problem with my 2003 nissan sentra gxe. I don't know about under the hood, but I was told that the gas filter needed to be changed. Something's wrong with the gas intake to the engine. I had it "fixed" but it still does it a little bit everytime.

Sprak plug gap could be off. The coils might not be producing spark, the timing could be off. could be one of a million things but if your kinda handy and have some tools and a repair manual some time will lead you to the correct diagnoses

The car may not recognized its key. I would try another key or see if there is a code for an unauthorized key.

If the car has a chip key, the ignition may not recognize the key. Try another key or read the trouble code and the chip reader may not be working.

Sentra that will Not start

If it cranks smooth as you say there may be no compression in which case the timing belt is broken! Not good.

you hit the nail on the head ,cold and silicone chips ,they do not like the cold weather they can be temperamental to say the least ,as for finding the faulty component you will need an identical car that works ok ,then when yours will not start try swopping bits till you hit the one causing the problem.or sell it for a nice manual diesel version,
