Radio resets when car is turned off

I have jusp purchased a 2003 ford focus. The previous owner installed a JVC radio. The radio resets itself to the "new" factory settings (DEMO ON - no saved presets, clock to 1:00, etc) every time the car is turned off. If I want to set the clock and set the presets every time I get in to drive, it is not a problem, but it gets a bit tedious. I suspect it is because the power supply was hooked up incorrectly. I am guessing the power supply to the radio should be connected to some sort of passive power when the car is turned off so that the memory and the clock functions can be retained. What would be the best way to troubleshoot and correct this problem?

There is a yellow wire in the harness coming out of the head unit, this should be connected to a constant power. This circut maintains power to the head unit for the clock and memory.
The red wire should be connected to a source that is turned on and off with the key switch.

How do I get my car radio code

Check your owners handbook, sometimes its in the back. If not go online to sites that sell radio codes. Basically type in "Ford radio codes" get the make model and serial number off yours. They are all on the back of the set. You may need someone to remove the radio for you to get them. Enter the numbers as required on the website, see if they have your set listed, pay a couple of bucks and they will send you the code. Shop around for the best deal, the costs vary considerably.

I just bought a used 2003 Focus and the radio will not turn on nor does the cruise control turn on. All the other electrical things in the car work flawlessly. Could this be a fuse issue? I also did not...

Yes, this is most likely a fuse issue-- likely one fuse for the radio, one fuse for the cruise control.

Owner's manual can be found here (free download in PDF):
https://www.fleet.ford.com/maintenance/owners_manuals/results.asp

The fuse panel you are looking for will be on the driver's side under the dash.

Hi I have a 2003 ford focus ghia, could anyone help me with the radio code? had to change a fuse now no music! please help asap thanx

You need to contact your Ford dealer for it. They will require proof that you own the car and may charge for providing the code, but it's usually free if you're a regular customer for sales, parts or servicing. usually they look up the code via your car VIN number but it can also be done using the radio serial number.

If you carefully check the original literature which came with the car, you'll often find the code written down somewhere. Sometimes previous owners will have written it inside the glovebox.

If the radio has been replaced since the car was made, then the VIN lookup won't work and the radio will need to be removed to read the serial number.

Radio doesnt work

If the radio itself is not recieving any signal, it is time to replace the radio. These are getting cheaper and cheaper in certain cars. When you go to replace it, the key to this is, purchase for around $20 the plug in harness. It gets **** connected to the new stereos harness and then plugs directly to the vehicles existing harness so you don't need wiring diagrams or screw with the lighting. You can be done in about 30 minutes even as a novice.
