I have jusp purchased a 2003 ford focus. The previous owner installed a JVC radio. The radio resets itself to the "new" factory settings (DEMO ON - no saved presets, clock to 1:00, etc) every time the car is turned off. If I want to set the clock and set the presets every time I get in to drive, it is not a problem, but it gets a bit tedious. I suspect it is because the power supply was hooked up incorrectly. I am guessing the power supply to the radio should be connected to some sort of passive power when the car is turned off so that the memory and the clock functions can be retained. What would be the best way to troubleshoot and correct this problem?
There is a yellow wire in the harness coming out of the head unit, this should be connected to a constant power. This circut maintains power to the head unit for the clock and memory.
The red wire should be connected to a source that is turned on and off with the key switch.
Testimonial: "It took me a while to find time to fix it, but the advice was "spot - on". Radio works like a champ now. THANK YOU!!"
