Have scanned to find problem code to get an idea of what it is. .it may either be the crank or cam sensor, check the crank sensor first. if it is bad it sends wrong timing info to pcm. therefore jeep will not start!! It is either the camshaft or crankshaft positioner. I would check the crank pos. first. Zach Cabot, AR

Why wont my 1995 jeep cherokee stay started?

if you had corroded battery terminal look around the battery +ve terminal to see if there is another smaller guage wire that may have corroded through and fallen off. The big cable you cleaned powers the starter , the other wire powers the ignition and may need connecting.

My 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited has a new battery but won't start. When I try to jump start it, it just makes a clicking sound but won't start.

Most likely you have a bad connection somewhere. Trace the battery cables and clean/tighten all terminals or try jumping to a different lug. You might also try removing the starter and jumping directly to the starter to verify that it is good.

Just bought a 98 jeep grand cherokee larado, has a clincking sound and won't start. does anyone know hwat the button under te battery is for?

the switch under the battery tray is a ambient temp sensor and it charges the battery accordingly to make sure it does not over charge or under charge if it goes bad your battery wont charge. My 1998 jeep cheorkee engine turns but won't crank, could it be the computer or what?

it's highly unlikely, there are only two things that can make this happen, not getting fuel (fuel pump failure, fuel pump regulator) or not getting ignition (bad coils, ignition module failure, bad distributor, distributor cap, rotor)

No power to coil i have replaced the distripertor cap, rotter, crankshaft positioning sensor, battery, and the coil .i also checked all fuses in both fuse pannels. the jeep ran fine before vacation, older son...

well those jeeps are funny little critters when it comes to the battery terminals believe it or not if the battery terminals get to corroded it will crank most of the time and usually start but wont idle i would clean terminals real good and and charge it up real good and try it but like i said they usually at least start in ur case i would check the grounds and also u say it is a 1998 jeep cherokee is it a grand cherokee with a 4.0 straight 6 cause they usually have a coil pack for each cylynder mounted under a ignition module bolted on the head

also ignition module may b at fault but my money is on the batt or a bad ground if all hat happened is the battery got ran down

Having trouble with 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited not starting when the key is turned. It clicks but does not fire. It takes several tries to get the engine to start.

Three items to check there. Make sure the battery terminals are clean and secure, check the starter relay (quick way is to steal another in the power center and switch them). Also check the engine grounds and that the starter solenoid is engaging. If you have power at the small terminal on the starter when the key is turned to start, good bet the starter is bad.

04 Jeep Cherokee won't start. It clicks when I try to start it.

Take off the battery terminals and clean any build up on battery posts put them back on and make sure they are tight then see if it starts.

1998 jeep cherokee grand wagoneer lost all electrical.

Dirty terminals connections increase circuit resistance and will cause heat. Clean contact surfaces on terminals and battery and you should have no more problem there.
