Hello, my 99 bmw z3 will not start. turns over but will not fire. had same thing happen 1 year ago and had to have hauled to dealer. it was the electronic immobolizer that needed to be reset. is there any way i can get this going on my own? kinda stranded out of town now. thanks jeff.

the problem is that it has been parked up for 8 yrs, you really need to get a decent mobile mechanic to give it the once over, there are a number of things that it could be, they don't like being left that long & not at least started.

Saw this once before..Could not believe it but it was the battery. Crazy thing happen when the battery is low.

I think that if the battery went completely flat the vehicle may have lost the security code, or the same can have happened if you did not follow the boost charge instructions when starting. If that has happened you'll need to have the unit re-encoded by a dealer. Keep in mind that starting a vehicle periodically is good but if you don't run it as well the battery will become exhausted and finally fail. The start up of any engine drains more power from the battery than any other operation. You need to start it and give it a run.

It might be an interlock. Try rolling the car forward and back when this happens until the key turns. It doesn't take much, you should be able to do it from the drivers seat in a small car like the z3

hi,i have bmw z3 coupe 1999,2,8.i was having same problemes,and it` cost me money by mecanic by geusing(starter,altermateur) like 1200$,belive me the probleme was the battery, get a new battery,and make sure the+ i mean the red line in the battery is good and try to move it to make sure good luck..

This used to happen to my car and it was the automatic choke not kicking in .....old cars had a pull out choke but inour days this is a thing of the past

code P1423 for a BMW is secondary airflow sytem bank 1, consult your repair manual and you can go from there. I am not up on imports to be honest but I was able to find out what the code means for you. hope it helps.
