This is caused by a defective gas gage sending unit, the sending unit is part of the fuel pump module inside the gas tank, the gas tank must be removed to replace the fuel pump module that also contains the sending unit.

Is there a recall on this part? I also have that same trouble.

No there is no recall. Gas gage sending units are a very common failure no matter the make of the car or light truck, see 100's of posts on fuel gage issues, most are the sending unit.

gas tank gauges used to last the life of the vehicle. are our manufacturers of parts really getting that bad. my 2008 Chevy Malibu has the same gas gauge problem.

It is the clean burning gas they use now with all the additives, it eats up the sending unit.

Well snap! I must have gotten extra super clean gas then yesterday, because mine broke immediately after filling up! >:(

It is not the gas tank that wears out it is the sending unit. These are two very different parts. A sending unit is an arm that sweeps across a coil of wire on an insulator, as the sending unit float moves the sweeper arm over the variable resistor the fuel level gauge goes up and down, in simple terms the fuel gauge is no more than an ohm meter.

Mazda 2008 tribute, fuel gauge not reading correctly. Replaced the fuel pump and no change. Any ideas?

If the signal from the sending unit is correct, the problem would be in the gauge on the dash.

Gas gauge doesn't work changed out the fuel pump or the fuel card and still don't work it's a 1999 chevy malibu

Just had a new fuel pump installed in 2002 Chevy Malibu. Worked great for about a week and then the fuel gauge started reading "empty" when the car has a full tank of gas. What happened?

Fuel gauge wraped around to full

Fuel gauge measures resistance of potentiometer coil in tank.
If you pull wire at tank unit, and short it, it should read full.
With wire off completely, should read totally empty.
If not, gauge bad.
If ok, then tank unit bad.

2002 Chevy Suburban: Fuel gauge reads empty, tank is half full

Youre gauge is controlled by a plunger in the fuel tank which is attached to the sensor and the fuel gauge. it sounds like when the plunger goes down half way its either getting stuck down lower then it should. Needs replacing. Any mechanic can do this install for you.

Gas gauge reads full most of the time some times reads true but always gos to full 99 F250 super duty

Check the harness connector at the fuel tank for a short to ground and test to see if the tank is properly grounded.

2 problems.1997 Chevy blazer, OBD2 and fuel gauge wont read

Problem number one. The circuit that powers up your data link connector (where you plug the code reader into) is the cigarette lighter fuse. Check that fuse to make sure it is not blown. Second problem: You more than likely need to replace your instrument panel cluster.

My low fuel light came on and the gauge read so but upon filling

Sounds like your fuel sending unit may be bad, or you have a hell of a leak. Should still be under warranty.
