You will need to remove the door panel and find out what is broken or loose. Unscrew the arm rest and release the clips that you will find around the outer edge of the interior door panel. Once you have it open, look in the bottom of the door to find any parts that have come loose. You may want to remove the panel on the passenger side so you have an example of how a working one should look.

2001 Suburban 1500

try to remove your door panel and check to see if your latch is still connected. some times the rods will drop off. That or your catch on the door itself has come loose and dropped down enough to cause the door to stick and will not open from both inside or out

Doors/Locks

Pull drivers rear door panel off
1. Remove door lock solenoid and plug it into another door to see if it works
2. If you can reach inside the door to the final mechanism that everything pushes on, push it yourself to see if it works
3. Also look on side of door for possible child saftey lock switch

97 Suburban dome lights

It is not going to be a fuse, It is going to be your dome light switch on the dash or one of your door switchs is bad. I would start with drivers door, (make sure the other doors are closed) you can open the door and flick the switch in and out a few time. Push it in and let it snap out. (keeping a eye on the lights) If that doesnt work disconnect the door switchs one at a time. Dont let the wire touch a ground because that is what turns the light on. Make sure the dome switch on the light itself is not turned on. It is possible but not likely that a wire has come off of one of the door switches and grounded itself.
