The intake manifold was full of carbon, got it cleaned, car takes long to start up in the mornings and smokes alot, smokes when you accelerate to change gears, power is very gradual and not like other models like mine, jetta 1.9 tdi 2000 model, 270km

sounds good. You could also put some Sea Foam in your oil and gas and let it burn though a cycle. Or if you are really desperate. Take one end of the vacuum hose off your brake booster and put the end in a can of Seas Foam and let the manifold suck it up in the engine. It will blow white smoke for about 5 mins but cleans VERY fast. I have fixed lots of EGR\'s this way
Check and make sure the catalic converter is not blocked, its a common problem on accents.
Whats alot of carbon, if it reaaly bad you might want to remove intake manifold and clean it, or if its not to bad run engine at 1500 revs and spray nulon carby cleaner in slowly to clean it out.
seems like theres a build up of carbon in the intake. you can try the pour in gas tank cleaners for fuel injection cars which you have and after 2 or 3 of those with 2 or 3 full tanks it will clean the injectors and the carbon out of the intake. And if you really want to get them cleaned up even better and stop all the rough idling, take the intake off yourself and clean all the black stuff off anywhere you see it. Thats the carbon build up. Especially on the butterfly valve area. It will not only run better for you but get better gas mileage as well.
Hi Alan: You might have an air or a vacuum leak. This is very common! Open the
hood and listen for a hissing sound when the engine is running. Unmetered
air can enter the engine through a vacuum leak, a dirty airflow sensor
that is not reading airflow accurately, an EGR valve is not closing and
is leaking exhaust into the intake manifold, an EGR valve that is
allowing too much flow. If it is hard to pinpoint take some brake
cleaner or starting fluid around the intake manifold and vacuum lines
and see if the engine stumbles or if the idle is affected.
Also, your throttle body may be
carboned up and need to be cleaned! This can cause all sorts of idle and
hesitation problems. This is caused by the throttle plate not seating
properly. The First thing i would do is clean out the throttle body with
some throttle plate and intake cleaner and a small brush. Another
common cause would be the Idle Air Control motor. This is very common on
older cars. The IAC motor gets lazy and cant keep up with the fast idle
changes. Also when the IAC motor is out, I rec to check the passages
for carbon build up. If they are plugged they need to be cleaned out.
Possible Causes Check for air leaks in the Air Induction system (e.g., in the intake manifold) Check for air leaks in the PCV system and in its related hoses and/or valve Idle air inlet passage or throttle bore is dirty or full of deposits IAC valve has failed MAF sensor is dirty, "skewed" or installed improperly Throttle plate, throttle shaft or linkage is damaged or sticking TP sensor is out-of-range or "skewed" high
Hope this helps; also keep in mind that your

Thank you for using FixYa, have a nice day and Merry X-mas.
the spider legs in the intake mainfold at the top of the engine are leaking very bady. mine did the same thing and my mechanic took it apart and 4 out of the 6 injector legs were rotted and just spraying excess fuel into the manfild. the four that was bad was all nice and clean from the gas. the other two looked a little dirty like it was supposed to be.
These little engines(although very good little engines)have a problem with carbon build up in the intake manifold. It builds up so bad it begins to choke the engine off. The only solution is to remove the intake and soak with a good solvent over night and will generally take you a good couple of hours to clean out to get to "like new" again. Once this is accomplished, it's like driving your car new again!!
It sounds like your Idle air control valve may be sticking and needs to eb cleaned out. You can clean it by spraying throttle body cleaner through the throttle body and in to the idle air control valve passage way in the throttle body. Maker sure you use throttle body cleaner, the carb cleaner is too corrosive to the gaskets used for throttle body. Once you have cleaned out the throttle body, "follow the instructions on the can" turn the ignition keys to the on position for 30 seconds and then off for 10 seconds and then start the engine. This procedure will reset the idle air control valve and your should be good to go, if you see excessive smoke from the tail pipe. Don't worry, that's just the residual carbon and throttle body cleaner in the intake manifold and the smoke will go away soon as you burn off all the carbon and cleaner in the system. Takes about 5 min if not less, depends on how dirty the throttle body and intake manifold was. If this has not fixed the problem, good chance that the idle air control valve has gotten too far to be cleaned and needs to be replaced, but that's rare. Good luck and keep me posted, be glad to help you get your truck running 100% again.
