You may have a stuck closed thermostat, if it overheats within 10 minutes or so. I would verify the cooling fan/s are coming on. The worst case, would be a blown head gasket.

on of the strangest things in my 1995 chrysler concorde was found after a lot of time effort and money was spent in trying to repair the overheating problem. Radiator, Water pump, Hoses, Radiater cap, It turned out to be the heater block hoses at the fire wall in the engine compartment. not the hoses but the super cheap junk chrysler spring hose clamps.
what happened was insane. When the pressure built up they would leak slowly and the water level would go down until it was too late to stop the overheating. And it would blow out the overflow pipe. by this time it was steam and spray everywhere, and no sign of the leak at the hose clamps to the heater core. This problem was intermitent and could run OK for weeks. The cure was the better hose clamps you use a screw driver on. These are sold everywhere and come in mixed sizes. I would change them all including under the manifold. This would have saved me hundreds of dollars. Chrysler Bah Humbug.

Smell of coolant and smoking

smoke from exhaust could be cracked head or blown head gasket but normally when one of these two things happen it runs crappy if it runs at all smoke from under the hood you may have a pin hole in your radiator or hose or even heater core put some stop leak in it watch for puddle of anti-freeze under the hood and on the ground keep a close eye on your tempature gage and a close eye on you anti-freeze levels and dont add fluid when the motor is hot this will crack your heads good luck.

Coolant leak from radiator and white smoke coming from the hood.

Sounds like you have blown a head gasket. Do not run the engine like this or you will seize it up . anti freeze will freeze the pistons and you will need a new engine. Hope you have not ruined it now.
White smoke is a sign of water in the piston area.

My 1997 subaru impreza squeals badly and then engine smokes

Hi this sounds weird does the smoke come out from the front engine covers? the squealing could be the cambelt trying to turn a semi or completly ceased waterpump which would cause the smoke after a while, also without the waterpump working properly the engine will leak water and anti freeze out the overflow and overheat really quickly

Blowing white smoke

white smoke is caused by-- water or anti-freeze entering cylinder . if in radiator or the overflow tank. it will look like a chocolate milk shake. check on oil dipstick for traces of water or anti-freeze. also, a bad head gasket will let water or anti-freeze in combustion area. head gasket symtoms if bad. Symptom #1: Chronic Engine Overheating
Symptom #2: Significant Drop in Coolant Level Symptom #3: Mixing of Coolant and Engine Oil
Symptom #4: White Smoke from Exhaust Pipe

popping of overflow cap Symptom #6: Air Bubbles in Radiator
Symptom #7: Engine Lacks Power GOOD-DAY!

2003 Chrysler 300M All of a sudden there was white smoke coming from under the hood while i was stopped at a light. I parked and opened the hood and it was more like steam then actual smoke. My...

Hello, The pressure relief valve is your radiator cap. You have a 2003 Chrysler and two day is 2011, that mean this upper radiator hose has been in service for 8 years now. Most likely the upper radiator hose valid. Sir/Mama, it time for replacement of all hoses and belts. Have the vehicle coolant system flushed and new 50/50 anti-freeze and water installed. Also, maybe a new radiator cap wouldn't hurt either. GB...stewbison

My s 430 has smoke coming from under hood after driving but not all the time temp gauage reads normal. I had oil and trans leaks sealed but it is still happening, what else could it be? Thanks

SMOKE UNDER HOOD COULD BE COOLANT LEAK FROM RADIATOR ITSELF OR CHECK FOR LEAKING TOP RADIATOR HOSE AND CHECK FOR LEAKING BOTTOM RADIATOR HOSE.LOOK UNDER THE HOOD IF COOLANT BOILING OUT COOLANT OVERFLOW JUG ENGINE OVERHEATING FROM BAD THERMOSTAT OR BAD WATER PUMP.CHECK FOR COOLANT LEAK AT WATER PUMP WEEP HOLE.IF SO WATER PUMP NEED REPLACING.ADD MORE COOLANT UNTIL LEVEL CORRECT.TRY LOCATE LEAK. IF CAR OVERHEATED AND BOILED IT OUT. SMOKE UNDER THE HOOD CAN ALSO BE CAUSED BY LEAKING VALVE COVERS WHICH CAN BE FIRE HAZARD IF OIL LEAKS ON HOT EXHAUST MANIFOLD.

1990 Honda Civic low kms. overheated, added

I want you to take a couple of spark plugs out and examine them. If you find Anti-freeze on them then you may have a blown headgasket. A very common problem of driving a car until it overheats. I really do hope im wrong. Since it is an overhead valve engine with the cam shaft above...its a 1000.00 to 1500.00 dollar job to have it properly repaired. From here out im just going to explain why this happens...
When a car overheats - be it a faulty thermostat...low coolant...or a faulty water pump or improper coolant mixture ratio. The engine gets so hot that it actually makes the top of the engine change shape... it actually changes enough to damage the head gasket. The head gasket keeps the explosion inside the combustion chamber. Keeps the water in its coolant jacket. and keeps the oil inside its ports. When the Headgasket fails. Sometimes coolant gets into the oil (makes a milky residue form on the inside of the oil filler cap...or makes the engine oil look like chocolate milk.) or oil gets into the coolant (makes your coolant have an oil slick on top) It can also cause water to get into the combustion chamber and when the engine is running - blast the combustion back into the coolant (causes the coolant overflow to overflow or spray) or oil gets into the combustion chamber causing the plugs to get fouled (dirty). worse case...all the above happens. I hope this helps in figuring this problem out...i really do hope im wrong about a blown headgasket . As even i tremble in fear of it happening to my car. Good Luck!

Anti freeze all over the place

it could be antifreeze that was on the frame after changing the radiator the best way to tell is run car through a car that has the bottom wash or in a self wash and on... rinse... spray the area around radiator ...then check again later for antifreeze on ground
