Due to gas thefts becoming more prevalent when gas was either hard to come by or expensive or both, many manufacturers installed anti-siphon blocks in the gas tank filler necks of many vehicles. These can sometimes be gotten around by judicious fishing of the inlet tubing down through the gas filler neck, but it can be very hard on some vehicles. Try measuring the distance from the bottom of the gas tank to the top of the filler neck with a yardstick. You can hold the bottom of the yardstick approximately at the bottom of the tank as you can see it while kneeling down beside the back tire and note the distance to the filler tube. Mark off that distance from the end of the inlet tubing for the siphon and put a heavy mark on the tubing at that point. If you can\'t get the inlet tubing down the filler neck to this mark, you probably aren\'t going to be able to successfully siphon gas. You can try twisting the tubing as it goes down the filler neck and pushing it up and down to see if you can snake by the anti-siphon block. It helps if the siphon inlet tubing is small and stiff, but again, no guarantees.
well first have you tried using another pump,and if so are you sure the tank is not full i know these sound simple but fuel gauge cold be faulty ext...but if so the fuel tank pressure could be to high do you or have you had the fuel come back up the filler neck something like a fuel tank overfill valve could be faulty in this case would need to see a prof. mechanic to diagnose ,and last pour gas in with a gas can see what happens you may get some type of answer fegas coming up filler or gauge inop ect...hope this helps
The only way is to remove the tank from the vehicle first , then remove all the fuel from the tank. The neck can be welded using gas welding , get help if your are not familiar with welding. if the crack is wide , use a clipper to hold while you weld and try to fit the filler cap before fitting back the tank. 1)Open the gas door and unbolt the gas filler neck from the body of the vehicle, using a 1/4-inch ratchet and socket.------- 2)Crawl underneath the vehicle, and use a flat-head screwdriver to disconnect the fuel filler neck from the gas tank. There is a hose clamp that secures the rubber hose to the tank, and a breather tube as well. Work the tubing off the tank using your hands.-------- 3)Pull the gas filler neck out of the gas door by hand. You may need to twist it around to snake the tubing through the body of the car, but it will come out.------ This

Also, be sure to not over-fill the gas tank. When filling the tank, when it sounds full (you can hear gas gush up the filler neck) and when the filler clicks off the first time...don't be tempted to keep clicking more gas into the tank because over-filling can cause a variety of problems (including setting the light) and can eventually saturate/ruin the fuel vapor canisters.
ok i'm going to guess that you have a gasoline engine with a side tank like in a pickup truck. if you have a diesel let me know, things might be a little different. here's the step by step for a gas side tank. before you start, disconnect the battery negative cable. 1. drain the fuel from the tank (they don't tell you how, just get as much out as you can) 2.raise and safely support vehicle (get it high enough that you can get under it to work on it) 3.loosen the fuel neck hose at fuel neck and disconnect filler neck from tank 4.support tank and remove tank support straps and insulator strips 5.remove frame mounted bracket 6.lower fuel tank shield 7.lower fuel tank enough to gain access to fuel and electrical connections 8.disconnect fuel feed and vapor hoses 9.disconnect electrical connectors 10.remove fuel sender assembly and seal ring now to install new tank 1.install NEW seal ring and install sender 2.raise tank enough to connect fuel feed /vapor hoses and electrical connector 3.raise tank fully 4.install fuel tank shield 5.connect fuel tank filler neck and tighten clamp CAUTION tighten fuel strap fasteners in steps, alternating between straps, until proper torque is reached. failure to properly follow this step can cause bottom of tank to deform. fuel gauge may read improper level if this occurs 6.install fuel tank brackets and insulator strips torque nuts to 115 in-lbs 7.install fuel tank filler cap 8.connect battery negative cable 9.turn ignition switch off and on and check for leaks it's pretty much the same for rear tank, just different location, may have off-road shield in back and torque spec is 47 ft-lbs, not 115 in-lbs. you still have to alternate when you torque straps or you risk deforming tank. hope that helps
It souds like the air return line from the fuel filler pipe is plugged. When you fill up the car the air has to escape from the tank or else the fuel backs up into the filler neck shutting off the fuel nozzle. The air pipe is housed in the fuel filler pipe and lets the air escape as the fuel is going into the tank. Remove the filler neck and inspect air bypass line to see if it is kinked or plugged.
