I have the same car, the only solution to this problem is to tighten the clutch cable nut just as necessary until you feel that you are able to shift smoothly without forcing it, make sure you start the car to test for that.

You might have to remove the air intake in order to access the clutch cable.

If you tighten the nut too much, your clutch will feel light and you will have clutch slips. So basically keep trying until you're there. You can loosen or tighten the nut while the car is running, I'd recommend.

under the car there is a change control arm sometimes when that comes loose it makes it difficult to shift from gear to gear. the change control arm should be right under your shifter for repair info go to autozone.com sign up its free then click on repair manuals you will find all of your info there....good luck

Gears not engaging on 2004 KIA Rio manual transmission

If you are unable to get the shifter to go into hear, the most likely problem is a bad clutch. Have the clutch hydraulics checked as well as the release bearing.

Why does my 2003 Kia Rio have hard time going into 1st, 2nd, & sometimes reverse? Unless I press REALLY ******* clutch.

The clutch system in the Kia rios of those years are clutch cables, not hydraulic. There is no need for clutch fluid. Have a mechanic look at your clutch cable tension.
If it turns out to be a tranny prob thank Korea for building cheap cars.

How to fix a clutch for a kia rio 2003

What is wrong with your clutch first of all? Is slipping or smells like it is burned?
Most manual transmissions cars have a clutch adjustment to compensate for the wear on the clutch , some cars have a hydraulic adjustment.
Depending on how bad is the wear on the clutch you might need to replace it especially if the clutch overheated and is glazed.

synconizers or shift fork bent, but most likely your throw out bearing is not dissengageing your pressure plate al the way. check your clutch linkage.

I agree, I believe it is your release bearing. Your clutch might be going out.
