Instrument Panel Removal

  1. i need a diagram on how to remove a heater core in - stv~us~en~file=ani_caut.gif~gen~ref.gif WARNING: THE BACKUP POWER SUPPLY ENERGY MUST BE DEPLETED BEFORE ANY AIR BAG COMPONENT SERVICE IS PERFORMED. TO DEPLETE THE BACKUP POWER SUPPLY ENERGY, DISCONNECT THE BATTERY GROUND CABLE AND WAIT 10 MINUTES.
    Disconnect the battery ground cable (14301).
  1. Remove the access cover from the bottom of the steering wheel (3600) and disconnect the driver side air bag module electrical connector.
  1. Open the glove compartment, then pull the access panel from the top of the glove compartment. Disconnect the passenger side air bag module electrical connector.
  1. Remove the four console compartment plastic screws or C/D changer cover plastic screws (if equipped) and the console compartment door (045G36) or C/D changer cover.
  1. Remove the two LH inner instrument panel lower cover screws and the plastic nut.




  1. Remove LH inner instrument panel lower cover (044L97) and disconnect the foot lamp electrical connector.
  1. Remove the two RH inner instrument panel lower cover screws and the plastic nut.
  1. Remove RH inner instrument panel lower cover (045G22) and disconnect the foot lamp electrical connector.
  1. Remove the plastic screw, two lower screws, two center bolts, two upper screws and the screw at the instrument panel bracket, then separate the glove compartment from the instrument panel (04320). Disconnect the glove compartment striker plate catch electrical connector.




  1. Remove the two instrument panel to passenger side air bag module bracket bolts.




  1. Remove the four passenger side air bag module nuts and the passenger side air bag.
  1. Remove the RH instrument panel screw.




  1. Remove the four C/D changer screws.




  1. Remove the C/D changer and disconnect the C/D changer electrical connector.
  1. Remove the instrument panel ash receptacle (04810).
  1. Remove the two upper center instrument panel finish panel screws and the two lower center instrument panel finish panel screws.




  1. Remove the center instrument panel finish panel and disconnect the cigar lighter socket and the cigar lighter illumination lamp electrical connectors.
  1. Remove the two instrument panel ash receptacle bracket screws and the instrument panel ash receptacle bracket. Disconnect the instrument panel ash receptacle lamp electrical connector.
  1. Carefully pry the center A/C register from the instrument panel.




  1. Remove the hose from the ambient temperature sensor and disconnect the ambient temperature sensor electrical connector (if equipped).
  1. stv~us~en~file=ani_caut.gif~gen~ref.gif CAUTION: Electronic modules are sensitive to static electrical charges. If exposed to these charges, damage may result. Refer to Module Service Procedures in Section 18-01 .
    Remove the four radio chassis bracket screws and pull the radio chassis (18806) and climate control assembly from the instrument panel.
  1. Disconnect the three radio chassis electrical connectors, the antenna lead, the three climate control electrical connectors and remove the radio chassis and climate control assembly.
  1. Remove the plastic screw, the two instrument panel steering column cover screws and the instrument panel steering column cover (04459).
  1. Remove the four LH instrument panel reinforcement bolts and the LH instrument panel reinforcement. Disconnect the diagnostic electrical connector.




  2. CAUTION: Electronic modules are sensitive to static electrical charges. If exposed to these charges, damage may result. Refer to Module Service Procedures in Section 18-01 .
    Remove the instrument cluster (10849). Refer to Section 13-01A (electronic cluster) or Section 13-01B (conventional cluster) for the removal procedure.
  1. Disconnect the seat belt warning chime electrical connector. Remove the two seat belt warning chime screws and the seat belt warning chime.
  1. Remove the four steering column nuts and lower the steering column assembly.
  1. Remove the two LH instrument panel screws.




  1. Remove the center instrument panel screw.




  1. Remove the LH inner duct screw and the LH inner duct.




  1. Disconnect the power outside rear view mirror control switch electrical connector.
  1. Pull off the upper portion of the LH inner door opening weatherstrip. Remove the windshield side garnish moulding (03598).




  1. Pull off the upper portion of the RH inner door opening weatherstrip. Remove the windshield side garnish moulding.
  1. Remove the instrument panel upper moulding (04268) and disconnect the sun sensor electrical connector (if equipped).
  1. Remove the light sensor amplifier from the top right side of the instrument panel and disconnect both light sensor amplifier upper and lower electrical connectors (if equipped).




  1. Remove the instrument panel center nut.




  1. Remove the two instrument panel upper bolts.
  1. Remove the instrument panel from the vehicle.

Off the heater hoses that connect to the heater core on back of motor by firewall.
