CAn't really tell what you mean? Do you mean something is rubbing inside the column, such as the flex joint being out of alignment? Or do you mean from the suspension, such as the steering rack being noisy?

  • Anonymous Jun 02, 2010

Its a little difficult to explain...when I turn the steering wheel a bit too fast to give a 90 or 180 degree turn I can feel in my hand a wheel vibration and at the same time a rubbing just behind the steering wheel. Looks like a insufficient power assist.
If I turn the steering wheel slow (regular turns) I dont feel any vibration or rubbing.

2004 GMC 1500 pickup, 4wd, I have had this thing Since it was new, three years after purchase, the steering wheel started to make a groaning noise when pulling into a parking space or out of, I have had the dealer in Flemington N.J. look at it and they can't seem to find an answer, Its almost like the truck is telling me don't park me again! I hate the noise, friend of mine who has ford undies laughs at my truck when I have to park it. Never heard my ford make any noise like that! What is the problem?

The vibration and rubbing may be separate issues. There could be many causes for vibration, ranging from low fluid, sticky rack valves, etc., to the tires simply grapping and releasing on the pavement. If it only does it under heavy use, such as when standing still and turning alot, then I suggest not doing that. It is hard on a car to turn the steering wheel when the car is not moving.

1989 chevy celebrity with adjustable steering and pulsating intermitant wipers etc. Steering wheel loose and rotates in 45 degree angle from side to side and up and down.

Well, first of all, the odds are the tilt section can be tightened back up without replacing anything. There are 3 bolts that get loose over time.
Second, if you really do need another column, any A body GM car built between 85 and 90 will work. That includes Pontiac 6000, Buick Century, and Olds Cutlass Cierra. The only real difference is the steering wheel which you would not have to change.

VW Jetta98 horn start honking whe I turn the helm.

I had this same problem on my 99 Jetta. There is a copper contact ring on the steering wheel and brushes on the steering column that allows electrical contact between the wheel and steering column for the horn. I found that there was a copper screw that had backed out and was shorting against the contact ring when I turned the wheel. You should be able to see it if you look at the gap between the wheel and column. I had to remove the steering wheel to get to the head of the screw so I could tighten it back down. In order to remove the steering wheel, you'll have to remove the airbag; something that I was nervous about. I did an online search for "how to remove airbag on Mk III Jetta" and came up with step-by-step instructions. The whole task took me about 1/2 an hour once I found out what I had to do.

    Heater core

18901fc.gifHere is an exploded view of the heating/air conditioning blower box. This contraption is located on the passengerside under the dash. I've changed heater cores on other cars but never worked on a caravan so not sure how difficult it'll be. You may need to remove a few cover panels to access this and the heater core #22 is located behind the distribution box #6 containing parts 7-18 and hopefully comes off as a unit. I wouldn't want to put it back together just looking at the pic. You may just need to remove the heater tube cover #4 to access the connections and slide out the core.....NAH couldn't be that simple!!! Hope this was of some help. Good luck.

    Vibration in steering column

if your vibration comes and goes with different speeds, most likely problem is balance in tires/wheels. a bent wheel often vibrates more with higher speeds. if the vibration is stong in the steering wheel, the problem is normally in the front end, if you feel in more in the seat or body of the car then look to the rear end.
