The battery drains down in 48 hrs. I had a Ford mechanic look at it but he could not find out why it happens to my 1997 lincoln town car. Jim

I will try to help. First, find out if the Cruise Control was recalled for your car. Have a dealer run the Vin#. The bad ones never shut the power off.

Next, rear window defrost switches can short without the light indicator being lit up. This is a hard one to diagnose because it cycles every startup. Also bad ignition switches can leave the ignition on. Its silent and is not visible.

If none of the above, you have 2 ways to test the car.
Use OHMS or VOLTS. With volts you put the meter between 1 battery cable and the battery. You can short out something with this method. I favor the OHMS method, which you disconnect both battery cables and put the meter on the cables.

You will have to pull fuses with either method. Its time consuming but once you write down the fuse placement and size you will eventually disconnect the grounded fuse. Then trace the system, like a bad window switch or trunk pulldown.

BMW 2002 X5 Battery Drain

I am having the same problem with my 2002 X5. There is a motor or fan running behind the AC control panel on the dash and if I pull fuse 48 it stops and the battery doesn't drain. Still looking for the cause and solution so that I don't have to keep pulling and installin fuse 48. BMW garage suggested that it was the Final Stage Blower Resistor. I replaced this and no change. I hope someone has an answer that will help us both.

What's draining my car battery?

it could be the radio wasn't hooked up right and doesn't turn off when the car is off. Or you could have a broken or chaffed wire somewhere grounding out. either one will drain a battery rather quickly.

Battery runs down over a few hrs Just had it checked and charged. put it in the next morning it was dead. Everything is unpluged, no lights on.

Disconnect ground battery terminal when you park overnight and see if it has power on the morrow. If it does you have
1. A short that's draining the battery
2. A gadget that is drawing more current when engine is off than normal e.g. alarm, clock, ecu. etc.
3. Last but not least your alternator is reversing current.

2000 ford explorer starts fine for 3/4 days then won't start let sit for 24 hrs starts fine not battery mechanic telling me starter someone suggested to change eec relay help with a suggestion or opinion

If your starter don't do anything (crank) like a dead battery, then its going to be your starter, if it cranks but don't start the engine, then it could be your eec relay.
