They are two different items. The cam sensor reports the position of the cam shaft(s) which operate the valves. The crank shaft sensor reports the position of the crank shaft, ie the position of the pistons.

SOURCE: Ive replaced the cam shaft sensor but need to see

The crank shaft sensor is located on the front of the engine under the timing cover. In order to replace it you will need to remove the timing belt.

Does the cam shaft position sensor an the crankshaft position sensor give the same codes when they are bad.

Simple answer is No. The sensors are looking for different errors and the crank shaft and cam shafts spin at different speeds from each other.

Cam or crank shaft sensor

It depends on which sensor and how it is designed. Some sensors are designed to function in an oil bath. Generally speaking, the sensor picks up a magnetic swipe of a gear or object as the cam or crank turns. I doubt an external oil leak would matter unless it gets into the wiring harness.

Engine start but off in 30 seconds

Have the fault codes read. Replace faulty items. Use only genuine items as non-genuine replacement are not always compatible with the OEM fitted CPU units .check for cam or crank shaft position sensor or idler sensor problems

2000 dodge neon will not start unless the cam shaft sensor is unplugged

I would go and but a cam sensor from the dealer. Aftermarket cam sensors can be slightly irregular. I had this happen to me with an aftermarket ABS sensor on a chevy. The whole problem was a gap difference equal to two sheets of paper. Whats happening is there is an open circuit in your old sensor that causes the check engine light but the new one has a good circuit but bad reading. I would say that is your problem.
