How doi fix a gas gauge on my chevy trailblazer 2005 ext v6?
Common problem on the 03-06 Trailblazer instrument clusters for the fuel gauge to go out. It's usually caused by one of two main problems, either the stepper motor on the cluster's circuit board is going out or the sending unit on the fuel pump is going out. Check out this blog post about the problem - Trailblazer fuel gauge problems
If it is just the fuel gauge? does it not move? it could be either the sending unit, in the tank, the actual gauge stepper motor, or the wiring in between.
The rear fuseblock under the seat behind the driver has the fuse and connection for that circuit.
If it is the stepper motor you can either send it in and get a new (rebuilt) cluster. They will charge you about 20 with 300 dollar deposit to force you send your old unit in to them.
or if you can solder you can get an OEM cluster stepper motor kit on A (the big guys) for about 10 bucks, 25 if you need a soldering iron. It takes a 7mm socket (5) and approx 7 Screws to take the cluster out.
Then it is very easy to repair. Several good U Tube vids on the subject.
If you do this consider that it is a good time to check all the lights in there and even change out the LEDs if you want a cooler looking dash at night.
Drop the gas tank it's the center on top of the gas tank
