Carbureted models have a fast idle cam on the throttle,It is a screw that sets against a movable part, called the cam, when the engine heats up,the cam will drop upon tapping the gas pedal.Set the carb, while the engine is cold,by tapping the gas pedal, then adjust the fast idle cam screw by turning it in,with the engine running.Start out by turning the screw in a full turn before starting engine so it will run, then adjust the screw as the engine runs.
how about a set of plug wires? i good way to test other than getting them wet is in the a.m. when engine cold, soak em down with some wd-40 then start if ok or greatly improved then there your culprit
If the fuel filter is dirty it will settle when you turn the truck off. When it runs for a few minutes the debris in the filter will get sucked into the screen and stop the fuel from getting through. If it was a starter or coil, it would not start at all.
