If your not too familiar with air-suspension, send it in. But I can tell you that the air-compressor will not last too much longer if it runs constantly.
You need to go underneath and find out where the air is coming from while the compressor is running. It is possibly coming from a defective proportioning valve, bad air-line or defective air-bag.

WOW! Sounds like you have your hands full of problems. You may want to try and avoid all of the air problems all together and check out Strutmasters.com. My mom had a 2001 Navigator and it sounds like the same issue. I bought her a four wheel kit for under half what the mechanic was going to charge me for the front.
They sure saved me time, money and headaches. I would recommend them to anyone in this position.

One of your rear air suspension components has failed releasing the air that you heard as a gasp. The optional air suspension on this vehicle uses air filled type springs instead of just conventional steel coil springs to support the rear suspension and with a loss of air pressure the rear of the vehicle will sag or drop considerably and the compressor will run and run as it tries in vain to refill the system. Usually one of the air springs fails but it could also be one of the air lines that go to them. Not something you can fix in your garage unless you are a very mechanically minded so I would suggest having it hauled to your local mechanic or Ford dealership for repairs.

After sitting in the garage the rear end drops low. After driving the vehicle again the rear end raises back up again.

Sounds like you have air ride and your system has developed a leak. I suggest getting it fixed soon. You will burn up your compressor and that can get expensive.

Suspension - back suspension makes car look like low rider

Number one reason the rear sags in a air suspension expedition is because of a 5 dollar or so relay. Their is a TSB addressing this issue with the relay being the fix

Number 2 reason is the compressor is bad.

Forgot toi turn the air suspension off when

Remove battery, remove windshield washer bottle, remove air compressor and disconnect both air lines from the compressor dryer. Make sure compressor electrical wiring is plugged in, install battery, turn suspension switch to ON, turn ignition switch to the ON position, close all door and the compressor should come on and completely lower the whole truck. Once the truck is completely down, turn the ignition OFF, remove battery and connect both air lines. Install battery ensure electrical wiring is plugged in, turn ignition switch to ON, the compressor should come on and raise the vehicle to the correct ride height.

Rear air bag suspension failure 1997 Ford EXP E.B. 4x4

loud hiss sounds like a air line broke or 1 of the bags somehow got a hole in it

crawl under and follow the lines and look for damage maybe turn the key on so that the compressor is running and listen for leaks

Loud buzzing noise

From the sounds of it, it's simply your air ride's compressor. If you're not aware that your vehicle has air ride suspension, read up on the user's manual or look on the web. When you start your vehicle and shift into drive or reverse, your compressor should start (assuming no doors are ajar). The compressor than fills all four airbags in your vehicle to a factory-set height. These airbags provide a softer ride than the conventional shock/strut system seen in less expensive SUV's and trucks but are also more prone to problems and damage down the line. You can isolate the compressor as the sound by going to your truck, removing the left hand side panel and switching your air ride off. Your car's compressor then should not kick in at all. However, you should not operate your vehicle with this switch turned off. You should only use it as a diagnostic reference or anytime your car is towed, hoisted, or jacked up. Hope this helps.

A/c unit won't blow cold air

hi there is a belt that drives the air conditioning compressor it rides on a pulley as does the altenator visually inspect the pullies to make shure there is no belts missing if so replace now there is a relay that engages the compressor and also there is a low pressure switch that determines if there is sufficiant gas pressure in the system if the pressure has dropped re leak in the cooling system then you have no pressure to turn on compressor this would let the air conditioning to not work first check to see if you have airconditioning system pressure by looking into glass sight lens if lense is green its got enough pressure if its not green you need to replace gas inside cooling system good luck with project and keep cool
