There is an (auto shut down relay) located on the van in the fuse/relay panel under the hood. It controls the fire to the coil, fuel injectors alternator. (never ever heard of a (eatx relay)??? Or a (eatx backup relay)??? Hope this will help you.
The EATX 20amp fuse on the fuse panel under the hood on the drivers side is very important to check. I am speaking of a 1996 Dodge Grand Caravan. If this fuse is burned out it will put the transmission into a limp mode, won't shift out of 2nd gear and gear selector indicator will have all the squares lighted which will not allow one to know what gear the car is in. The reverse will work. I know the grounding of these transmission (a ground wire comes loose) and that is always important to check. One last thing, The speedometer will not work if the EATX fuse is burned out.
OMG Luzhenry your freaking AWESOME! Thanks so very much for posting this. My 2000 Dodge Grand Caravan is now up and running like the Jewel she is. Who would have thought a $2 dollar fuse would have shutdown so much. Once again thanks so much for posting this info. You are one in a million!!!!!
Gr8. Helped a lot.

SOURCE: what is an EATX shutdown relay
eatx stands for electronic automatic transmission controller
the eatx relay provides power for the controller and the backup eatx relay is for the backup lights
