Check your brake fluid level. Low fluid levels will cause the brake light to come on. If the fluid is not low, there could be a problem with the emergency brake light switch or the brake fluid level sensor.
Remove wheel, remove the two bolts in the calipers, spread and lift off calipers,
remove pads compress caliper piston with a c-clamp, be sure to have the
brake fluid cap off the reservoir under the hood. - replace pads and
reverse the order.
Your brake peddle switch may be out of adjustment or defective. Look under the dash to the peddle & about half way up you will see the switch. Make sure it is releasing & working properly. Good luck!
dont know if this will help... but my Windstar had the same issue with the lights... it was just the sensor screwing up or no longer attached properly. as far as the grinding goes... it could be the abs kicking in because of a faulty sensor, but poke your head in and take a look at the brake assembly and make sure your pads are ok and that everything is attached properly.
