3.2L engine, you will have to remove timing belt to replace water pump, your water pump is timing belt driven, I would replace timing belt while in there, good luck, hope this was very helpful.

3.2 liter engine 1996 Iszuzu Rodeo water pump leaks underneath

  • If your water pump is leaking from below then it's leaking through the weep hole. Time to replace the water pump. Should be up front behind the fan clutch.

I am replacing the water pump on my 1996 Isuzu Rodeo. One of the water pump bolts is under the lower timing belt cover. However, the lower timing belt cover appears to connect around the crank shaft...

Hello Ralph,

What you actually going to have to do is take both timings covers off eventually. The waterpump is driven by the timing belt, and will have to be removed along with various other components.

The pulley bolted to the crankshaft will have to be removed, as well as the entire fan assembly. I forget what the socket is I used on it, but I believe it was 1-1/8".

If you send me an email to [email protected], I'd be more than happy to send you a .pdf file that details what you are getting into. Too long to list on here.

Best regards,
Steve

Yes its the correct name. Yes it should have been replaced..... but its up to the mechanics advice and the customer. its not normally replaced, but I replace all parts including the water pump, just as a matter off service, to avoid your exact problem.

My mechanic is telling me that it's necessary to replace the water pump on my 2002 Isuzu Rodeo when replacing the serpentine belt. Is this true? Ball park figure, how much would it be to replace both?

BS. Water pump should be replaced with the TIMING BELT. The serpentine belt doesnt even touch the water pump. If you have a V6 that is. but you didnt say what engine you have.

How do i tell if the timming belt needs to be replaced on a 1993 isuzu auto trans w/ac/4wd/6cy

Cracks, dryness, & brittle teeth are good factors to replace it. If you have it apart, replace it. No warning signals are given by timing belts, they just go out on average when the milagage nears 70K to 80K
It is advisable to replace the water pump at the same time for the life span of both parts are about the same

Remove belt, fan, fan shroud and fan bracket. Remove timing covers, timing belt and water pump. Replace timing belt and the hydraulic tensioner with new ones. I suggest you get a mechanic to do this as you can easly get it out of time. Not an easy job.
