GM Cavalier/Sunfire 1995-2000 Repair Guide Heater Core - REMOVAL & INSTALLATION
(see Figure 1)

  1. Disable the SIR system, as outlined in this section.
  2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  3. Properly drain the cooling system.
  4. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  5. Detach the heater hoses from the heater core.
  6. Carefully lower the vehicle.
  7. Remove the instrument panel.
  8. Remove the DERM with the attaching bracket.
  9. Detach the heater core cover.
  10. Unfasten the heater core mounting clamps, then remove the heater core.

To install:
  1. Position the heater core, then secure with the mounting clamps.
  2. Attach the heater core cover.
  3. Install the DERM with the attaching bracket.
  4. Install the instrument panel.
  5. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  6. Connect the heater hoses to the core.
  7. Carefully lower the vehicle.
  8. Properly refill the engine cooling system and check for leaks.
  9. Enable the SIR system.
  10. Connect the negative battery cable, then start the engine and check for proper system operation and/or leaks.

I do think you have to pull he dash, for that you will need a manusl, try ebay for used factory manuals, I have had good luck getting them there for all my cars.

Underneath the dash not visible not reachable until you take the dash off. I've never heard of any vehicle that you don't have to remove ar take apart the dash. Taking it apart should not be difficult just tedious. Get a Haynes Repair Manual. You'll learn how to take it apart step by step, no guessing.

Heater core leaking through floor vents.

Bad heater core you will need to replace it. About a 2 hour job, very easy to do:


Remove the HVAC module assembly. Refer to HVAC Module Assembly Replacement.
Remove the HVAC filter cover.
Remove the heater core/evaporator tube seals from the module.
Remove the heater core cover screws (1).
Remove the heater core retaining screws (1).
Remove the heater core retaining straps.
Remove the heater core.
Remove the rubber seals from the inlet/outlet pipes of the heater core.

Installation Procedure

Install rubber seals to the outlet/inlet pipes of the heater core.
Install the heater core to the module.
Install the heater core retaining straps.



Install the heater core retaining screws (1).
Install the heater core cover.



Install the heater core cover screws (1).



Install the heater core/evaporator tube seal from the module.
Install the HVAC filter cover.
Install the HVAC module assembly. Refer to HVAC Module Assembly Replacement.

Heater core replacement. Haynes manual and car have major differences.

Heater core is removed from inside the cabin. About a two hour job. The hardest part is removing the hoses in the engine bay.
In the cabin, remove the beauty panel under the glovebox; remove the glovebox, and move the HVAC controller. The heater housing, or cover is held with two screws, and the core is held with one screw (clamp).
Remove the HVAC module assembly. Refer to HVAC Module Assembly Replacement.
Remove the HVAC filter cover.
Remove the heater core/evaporator tube seals from the module.
Remove the heater core cover screws (1).
Remove the heater core retaining screws (1).
Remove the heater core retaining straps.
Remove the heater core.
Remove the rubber seals from the inlet/outlet pipes of the heater core.

Installation Procedure

Install rubber seals to the outlet/inlet pipes of the heater core.
Install the heater core to the module.
Install the heater core retaining straps.



Install the heater core retaining screws (1).
Install the heater core cover.



Install the heater core cover screws (1).



Install the heater core/evaporator tube seal from the module.

Install the HVAC module assembly. Refer to HVAC Module Assembly Replacement.

How do I remove the heater core?

Heater Core Removal & Installation To Remove:
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions in the beginning of this section. NOTE: If a heater core leak is suspected, pressure test the heater core to be certain of the problem before removing it from the vehicle.
  2. Remove the instrument panel.
  3. Remove the plenum chamber from the vehicle.
  4. Remove the screws and the heater core cover from the plenum chamber.
  5. Carefully cut the seal above the heater core inlet and outlet tubes and remove the heater core.

To Install:
  1. Place the heater core in the plenum chamber.
  2. Install the cover on the heater core.
  3. Install the plenum in the vehicle.
  4. Install the instrument panel.

  3. For 5.4L (4V), if quipped, remove junction splash shield.
  4. For 5.4L (4V), if quipped, disconnect starter relay cable. ford-03-00-3579.gif

  6. Clamp inlet and outlet heater hoses.
  7. Disconnect heater hose from heater core by gently pressing it toward heater core.
  8. Remove A/C plenum demister adapter.

  10. Remove 13 plenum chamber top screws.
  11. Remove blend door assembly from case.
  12. Remove heater core.
To Install:
NOTE: If needed, clean and lubricate coolant hoses with plain water.

The problem is the heater core leaking behind the dashboard. Heater Core Removal & Installation 1997-2002 To Remove:

Need to remove heater core from 2000 Daewoo Nubira

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the instrument panel from the vehicle.
  3. Remove the heater/air distributor case from the vehicle.
  4. Disconnect the vacuum actuators from the vent/floor door and the defroster door.
  5. Remove the vacuum actuators from the heater/air distributor case.
  6. Remove the screws that secure the heater core cover to the heater/air distributor case assembly.
  7. Slowly separate the lower heater core cover from the rest of the assembly
  1. Remove the screw and the bracket clamp that secure the heater core lines to the case.
  2. Remove the spring clamp that secures the heater core body to the case.
  3. Remove the heater core from the case.
  1. Install the heater core into the case.
  2. Secure the heater core lines to the case with the retaining bracket clamp and the screw. Tighten the heater core retaining bracket screw .
  3. Install the heater core body with the retaining spring clamp.
  1. Install the heater core cover.
  2. Install and tighten the screws that secure the heater core cover to the heater/air distributor case assembly. Tighten the heater core cover screws
  3. Install the actuators for the vent/floor and the defroster doors.
  4. Install the heater/air distributor case.
  5. Install the instrument panel.
  6. Fill the cooling system
  7. Connect the negative battery cable.
