My power tilt steering wheel is stuck in the up position. When the tilt button is activated I hear a clicking sound but there is no movement. There doesn't seem to be anything impeding motion of the piston at least not within the steering column. Is there a fuse somewhere I can check or is it more of a mechanical problem? If so how do I go about fixing this problem?

SOURCE: Suspension noise?

If the alignment was checked then the mechanic had to shake down the front end to look for any loose parts that would effect it. Sway bar links on Mazadas commonly make noise and are not checked while doing alignment. (they do not effect tire wear) If you are handy enough to take your front wheels off you can check for play in these joints. There is a bar that runs through your car and connects to either the strut or the lower control arm. Try moving the links that connect the bar up and down to see if there is any play. Usually they loose grease and make clunking noises while force is applied. The strut mounts could also be going bad, but you would here the noise all the time.

SOURCE: Stuck electric tilt steering - Is there a manual over ride?

My 2002 millenia did the same thing. My mechanic friend had me take a screw drive and go under the steering wheel where there is an opening and tap up in there. Then my steering wheel came back down. I did however turn off the auto after that. The motor is going bad.

Tilt wheel stuck I the up postion,How do you fix it

This happens with my ram. The tilt wheel locking pin is stuck. When this happens to me i have to wiggle my steering wheel up and down and pull on the tilt release lever at the same time until the locking pin slides out of it's locked position. I have found that if i do not lock the wheel in the max up or max down position i do not have this problem.

Replace rack pinion

He is probably telling you the truth as most cars have around 4 turns lock to lock. The clicking sound you are hearing is the turn indicator switch under the wheel clicking as you go past the fingers that activate the lever to off position. The only thing I would check first is that the steering shaft coupling onto the pinion shaft is tight and the clamp bolt is still there. Otherwise it will be a new/reconditioned rack and pinion box

How do I fix my tilt steering wheel that is stuck in the down position.

Follow these steps:
1. Disconnect the battery by removing the negative wire-you don't want the airbag to get activated while you are working
2. Remove everything around the steering and ignition area. You would have to remove two screws under the column area
3. You will notice that some gears are on top of the column and the tilt release teeth. When you lift up these gears or teeth, the steering can be moved
4. Ensure that the linkage is maintained between the top gear and the lever-simply pull the lever and see if it is raising the top gear
5. If you feel it is stuck, spray on some WD40 to drive away any present rust or debris. Also, move the steering up and down, and alongside move the lever which is present behind the indicator lever
6. If still it is not solved, use a Philips-head screwdriver to raise the geards manually, and position them in the right place

My 2005 DeVille's tilt steering wheel will not move. It is a mechanical lever (not power). when depressed the tilt mechanism doesn't seem to engage. the lever moves but the steering wheel cannot be...

There is no secret button. It sounds like the linkage between the tilt lever and the tilt mechanism inside the steering column has come loose, or the mechanism is jammed. If that's the case, it's a complicated job to repair it, and because of the air bag in the wheel housing, should only be done by a qualified shop.

Telescopic Steering wheel won't move down or up

Yes it would be perfectly ok to disegauge the auto switch to keep it from moving again. It needs a tilt motor replaced . not a easy job.

How to fix the tilt steering.. won't go down even when you push the auto button. My heated seats ain't workin either..(driver & passenger seat)

Most often, the stuck steering wheel is a result of a faulty 'tilt relay switch.' If you attempt to use the tilt switch and you can hear a clicking/whirring noise, then its your relay switch, if not, it may be the motor that is broken.

Turning left results in a low pitched squeak at steering wheel

Power steering Belt or pump pulley. Could be that turning left puts more stress on your system then turning right and that's why you only hear it while turning left.

91 buick park avenue starter wont activate when key turned

Sounds like the tilt screws are loose ,and will cause too much loose movement to linkage to engage ignition switcn.

Telescopic Steering wheel won't move down - I hear a gear spinning

Open the gear motor on the left hand side of the telelscopic assembly. Take the plate off held by 4 philips screws. Using a 10mm socket, remove the bolt holding the platic gear. Remove plastic gear and insert the reverse way. Over the years, one side of the gears get worn out.
