1991 Buick regal OBD code 23

I drive a 1991 Buick regal with a 3.8L the car is running very rough almost feels like a misfire. it also gets hot quick and smells strongly of exaust. the exaust also sputters out of the tail pipe now. the obd1 code it gave me was 23 for the IAT sensor. I happened to have an extra iat sensor from the junk yard but still the same issue. any ideas?

I wonder if the sensor from the junk yard is also bad. Check all of the wiring and connections. You might have to opt for a new sensor.

Well, the IAT (Intake Air Temperature) sensor is located on the air intake duct between the filter and the throttle body (Assuming you have the 6L motor). The wires are easily visible at the plug that connects the sensor to the wiring harness. That's the easiest place to access them.

SOURCE: iat sensor

Hi there ... The IAT sensor is on the intake manifold, just behind the alternator. For further info on this sensor you can go to www.autozone.com. click on repair info, select your vehicle. then click on vehicle repair guides. In the product search box at the top left type in IAT and then click on the repair guide in the box that appears and it will give you more info.

Hope this helps you out

Replace the timming chain, gears, and magnet. With that cat getting that hot it has to be out of time. When the cam sensor picks up no signal, ecu can't control timming and reverts back to a preset, fixed base # .

Misfire, a misfire is when you have a low cyclinder contribution this can be from a coil pack not firing to a open injector that is not atomizing the fuel in the combustion chamber to a large vacuum leak that is affecting that paticular cylinder.so you have a misfire. High HC (hydrocarbons) fuel not being burnt.2 misfire that concern does the vehicle rough idle smoothes out at higher RPM? If this does check the EGR it simple car running rough at idle feel the EGR is it hot to touch ? Then the EGR vavle got stuck open. another way is pulling out a spark plug wire and checking spark this will determine if the coil is working for that particular cylinder if you do this you need to make sure you dont break the plug wire you will have to wait for the engine to cool down and loosen the plug wire out of the sparkplugs and get it ready for a engine running test.

Sounds like your car is misfiring, if you can take your car to a parts store like pep boys or autozone and they will plug it in for free and you will get some engine codes. This will tell you EXACTLY what is going on here. If it is misfiring then your best bet is to change coils plugs and wires.

My buick regal 2003 wont excelerate it starts

It may be the throttle position sensor. You should have a check engine light on in your dash. You will need to have someone plug a OBD II reader in and retrieve the code.
You can spend a LOT of money just putting in one part after another.
Please let me know what you find.

Buick Regal problem-help!!!!!!!!

Have you done the basic maintenance. Spark plugs, oil change, ect.? As for the fans, if you have a/c one of them should only come on when your a/c is on. The other is regulated by a relay so when your car reaches a certain temp it kicks on.

1991 buick regal starting and running problem

Sounds like your car is overheating. If you have a temp gauge it should show that. If you just have an idiot light, by the time it comes on it's already too hot to operate. AFTER the car is cooled down, open the radiator cap to see how much coolant has been lost. Chances are there is alot missing. Add WATER (no sense in adding coolant if it's going to leak out) and idle the car at home. Look underneath as it warms up to find where the leak is.
