Hi, I have a 2005 Dodge Neon SXT and the cigarette lighter stopped working. I use it to charge my GPS and phone. I went to check the fuses and changed several and through google I read that it should be...

you need to check that there is power to the cigarette lighter before you replace it,it still may be a fuse you can usually tell if a fuse is blown by looking at it, if you can't try & get someone to show you how, cigarette lighters can usually be bought from a spare parts shop that will usually fit but you may have to a genuine one from a dodge dealer......hope this helps......cheers

My cigarette lighter 1996 mercury grand marquis

Your thought that the end of something fell into the lighter fried something is likely true. I can't imagine that the wire could be fried and the fuse is still good. check to see if the fuse you checked was the right one. If it was and it is good, a wire on the back of the receptacle may have come lose. The end that fell into the receptacle, did it get hot or damaged? That could be a clue as to if the receptacle was shorted when the end fell into it or if not, then look for a lose connection.
