Happened on G5 automatic and to release key there is an access hole underneath the steering column near the ignition switch and was able to manually push something to release key. gotta find a permanent fix!

Just encountered the same problem. Popped the clutch in first gear to kill the engine, but still cannot turn the car off.

Anyone have a clue as to why the ignition locked out?

SOURCE: Key stuck in ignition of 2007 Pontiac Torrent

well to get the key out all you need to do is takeWD-40 and put the small hose on it as far as you can down the ignition the spay it and wiggle the key UP AN DOWN then take a sewing needle and wiggle it around in the ignition som anything holdin the key in there will come loose. TRUST ME I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM WITH MY 2006 SILVERADO

SOURCE: Change ingnition switch on 1978 pontiac firebird trans am

Use a steering wheel puller to remove the snap ring that holds the big spring. Remove the screws that hold the signal light mechanism, and the signal light handle has to be removed. Lift the signal thing up to expose a "torx" headed screw. Remove that screw and the tumbler should pull out fairly easily. That torx screw should have an unthreaded part at the bottom of it. Make sure that comes with it. Sometimes they break off.

Hire do I bypass the ignition on a 2009 pontiac g5

You can't , the computers won't let you . The ignition switch is a low voltage input to the BCM - body control module . What's the problem ? lost keys or anti-theft system won't let the vehicle start an run . The BCM & PCM - engine computer are hooked together on the GMLAN serial data network . if the BCM doesn't the correct response from the transponder in the ignition key it will not send start request to the PCM/ECM . You have no clue as to what your dealing with. Do yourself a favor an take it to a qualified repair shop .

How to test ignition switch on 2008 pontiac g5.

What type of problem are you having? Make sure that all battery connections are clean and tight. Then with a test light check the fuse box. Do the fuses that get power when the key is on light up? Does the radio come on when the ignition in turned to on? Does the Air conditioner fans work when the key is in the on position? Does the starter crank over when you turn the key to the crank position?

My engine light was on in my Pontiac G5 I was gone get checked but the next day my car doesn't turn on at all no light or nothing plus my keys are stuck

It sounds like your car battery is dead. If you connect another car as if you were going to jump-start your car - you ought to be able to remove the key - or crank the engine to start it.

You didn't include the year of your G5, so I don't know about recalls for it - as there seems to be one for the 2009 - linked below:

Was the ignition switch ever recalled on the 2009 chevy cobolt

No,
Recalls for
  1. STEERING:ELECTRIC POWER ASSIST SYSTEM. GENERAL MOTORS IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2005-2010 CHEVROLET COBALT AND MODEL YEAR 2007-2010 PONTIAC G5 VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH ELECTRIC POWER STEERING. THE DRIVER MAY EXPERIENCE A SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER STEERING ASSIST THAT COULD OCCUR AT ANY TIME WHILE DRIVING.
  2. POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION:LEVER AND LINKAGE:COLUMN SHIFT. THESE VEHICLES FAIL TO COMPLY WITH FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLES SAFETY STANDARD 102, "TRANSMISSION SHIFT POSITION SEQUENCE, STARTER INTERLOCK, AND TRANSMISSION BRAKING EFFECT", AND FMVSS 114, "THEFT PROTECTION AND ROLLAWAY PREVENTION". ON SOME OF THESE VEHICLES, THE TRANSMISSION SHIFT CABLE ADJUSTMENT CLIP MAY NOT BE FULLY ENGAGED. IF THE CLIP IS NOT FULLY ENGAGED, THE SHIFT LEVER AND THE ACTUAL POSITION OF THE TRANSMISSION GEAR MAY NOT MATCH. WITH THIS CONDITION, THE DRIVE COULD MOVE THE SHIFTER TO "PARK" AND REMOVE THE IGNITION KEY, BUT THE TRANSMISSION GEAR MAY NOT BE IN "PARK".

2009 Pontiac G5 won't shut off. Key will not turn.

The pontiac G5 has a defect on some of them that need a new ignition switch. I just had to get mine replaced because mine did the exact same thing. If you remove the fuse it will not fix the problem!
