Yes it is in the tank. but you can remove the rear seat to get to the fuel pump, instead of dropping tank. (2003 to 2005) kia sorento. fuel filter is inside tank and replaced with fuel pump as an assembly.

Car starts then after about a minute it shuts down, restarts w/o problem then stalls again

I would think it is the fuel pump or relay . Turn key on an have someone by the gas tank to see if they can hear it running..It should run for about 5 seconds then shut off, if not heard I would guess the relay or pump is bad. Also a bad fuel filter can cause this.

2003 Cadillac CTS-When stopping at a light the car would turn off but was able to restart. Car eventually died and would not restart. Had battery checked then replaced as the battery was bad. Once the new...

Just guessing but trying to help...Your car might be vapor locked..Take off your gas cap... Do you heat KT sucking in air as you take it off...If you do your car will now start...A lot of people at the gas pump will try to get that extra fifty cent in their tank at fill ups..Thats the worst thing you can do. What your doing is putting gas down your gas vapor line...Its meant to burn vapors from your gas tank..When you over fill your gas tank this gas runs down that line into a canister that has charcoal as the filter built inside. Over time your gas will harden the filter to where it becomes clogged..Then as the pressure in your gas tank becomes greater than your fuel pump...Your car will shut off not start back up until the pressure in the tank drops....You can replace this canister... Most are behind your headlights on drivers side..Its that little black box your never did anything..On some vans there underneath...Another thing :is as these canister's go bad your putting all that broke down black charcoal right into your carburetor.. That's those lines thats those lines that are hooked to it at the bottom...So your feeding your car junk...Never over fill your car because in time it will shut off...So just loose the cap and lesson for air sucking in....Try to start it with cap off...More unlikely you have a non stock fuel cap..Either drill tiny hole in the center of cap or replacei it with factory stock...Also some cars have a fuel shut off switch that will shut the gas off in crashes...Sometimes these switches will go bad....they can be reset...Might be in truck under matting....Good luck...Hope all of this helps someone

I have a 2000 eldorado with10,000 miles --not driven much; sometimes after starting it will die after traveling 1/4 to 2 miles-- it will restart but takes several tries. is this a fuel filter problem?

yes sounds like but their is a fuel pump in tank and it has a bag on it to help prevent dirt and other substances from getting in.i have the expierence of removing the pump out of tank and found debree around bag causing it clogg up while driving .what happens is the pump is pulling fuel threw bag along with dirt and debree.once car shuts off sucktion of pump releases and sediments flow away from bag letting gas flow again untill it pulls dirt to bag blocking gas from comming in lines

Every time i try to but gas into my car the pump keeps shutting off eveyr to seconds.I ws wondering y this happens

The pump is shutting off because of back pressure. There are usually two lines going to the fuel pipe. The big pipe that the gas goes down and a smaller vent pipe that the air that is being displaced in the tank comes up. If this is blocked or is not working correctly , enough pressure can build up to shut off the nozzle of the gas pump. The gas nozzle thinks your tank is full.

While driving the vehicle shuts down and after

Sounds like fuel delivery problem. I have seen problems such has crud in the gas tank accumulates in the line, blocking it, or some foreign object such as a foil gum wrapper in the gas tank causing the pump inlet to become blocked. After the engine stops running, the blockage eases allowing gas to come through for a bit, enough to start but when the demand for gas goes back up, here comes the blockage again. Could also be a failing fuel pump. Start with easy stuff like a fuel filter change, and I think there are pressure testers where you can check your flow coming into the carb, injectors or whatever you have on that engine. It is nearly 20 years old, many things can and will fail with age and use.

Volvo will not start, no fuel pump sound

You should hear a hum from the gas tank when u turn the key to on for about 5 seconds, if not the pump is most likely bad, to replace the pump u must remove the fuel tank, remember to replace the fuel filter when u do the pump.

Car won't start

Your fuel pump is sticking and not pumping, this is common if you run the fuel down to less than 1/4 full, the fuel pump needs the gas to cool itself, below a 1/4 tank the pump is not getting cooled and after repeatably running low on fuel it overheats and fails. Running the car near 1/2 tank extends the pump life to many years more than running tank below a 1/4 full..
