Does my 1998 Civic have a timing chain or a timing belt and when does it need to be replaced
It has a timing belt. Recommended to be replace every 105,000 miles, timing belt also run's your water pump good idea to also replace, your engine is also an INTERFERENCE ENGINE which will damage your cylinder head valve's if timing belt goes bad. Hope this was very helpful.
All Honda Civic engines use a timing belt, and they should be replaced every 60,000 miles.
THE 2.0 ENGINE HAS TIMING CHAIN. THE ENGINES WITH TIMING BELTS THEY SHOULD BE CHANGED AT 90000 MILES.BUT BOTH CAN BE CHANGED.TIMING CHAIN CAN GO 100000 MILES BUT YOU CAN STILL CHANGE TIMING CHAIN AT 90000 MILES NO HARM DONE YOU WILL BE THE SAFE ZONE.
