Starter sounds like a good place to start.
Make sure battery is in good condition and fully charged, as wellas the battery cables and wiring to the starter(no corrision,0r looseness).

Engine failure

When a catalytic converter is coming apart on the inside, it can restrict air flow and power, and it usually happens or gets worse when the vehicle has been running long enough to generate a lot of heat. Once it cools down, the symptoms can completely go away until you begin to drive it again. It's one possibility.

Hi brought 1989 for daughter driving to her place started overheating on freeway...notice that the fan wasnt working...?once cooled down filled with coolant start ok..but still no fan. 2nd.problem...

for the fan, wire the small fans directly to the positive terminal of the battery. when after driving and finished driving disconnect to save battery. use a spark plug tester, (can be found in walmart) plug at the end of the plug and connect to a nearest ground e.g., valve cover screw or body. if still not working, check fuel pump if it receives electricity or if you hear it run at "ON" position. or try sanding off your distributor. (if it is EFi.) it is a common case of 80's to 90's cars was the distributor.
