You should be able to use r134 without any problems but if you have a leak in the system it won't stay cold long.Depending on the size of the leak if any will determine how long it stays cold like if you have a really small leak it might stay cold for a few days or maybe even a week if the leak is bigger might be cold for just hours or like one day.You might not even have a leak as the vehicle is 11 years old and may just need recharged.

Actually they now use R14 in all newer vehicles because it is "Greener" for the environment. If you put in something not compatible with the new A/C machines that work on air conditioning you could contaminate the system so A/C tech's will not work on them. So be safe and use a R14 refill kit with a sealer and an A/C dye so if it does leak you can see where it comes out with a special light!

I was given a set of 215 70 R14 brand new tires and need to know if they will fit on a 1999 Dodge Caravan, the tires originally on it say 205 75 R14

Hi , tires recommended on that vehicle are 195/75R14 and 205/75R14. The tires you have are taller and wider than recommended. The taller may or may not rub fender wells going around corners, etc. The wider would be ok, but may not mount to your rims. Call a good tire shop and ask a mechanic there if it is feasable to use those tires on your existing rims. Mike

Air conditioner blowing hot air

Hi, your car A/C system may have lost its charge of refrigerant, or the compressor may not be engaging when you turn on the A/C, or there may be an obstruction in the system, or the blend air door inside the HVAC unit may be stuck in the HEAT position so no air goes through the A/C evaporator.

Check to see if air conditioner clutch pump is engaging on engine. If it is you are probably low on freon.

It is most likely a closed or mostly closed thermostat, cheap fix and very common.

2002 Dodge Grand Caravan Sport A/C blowing hot air

you either have an expansion valve or an orifice tube in the system. if either is bad that will cause the prob. they do the same thing, depending on the system that you have. if you open the system to the atmosphere, the drier should be replaced. if you have a sightglass in the line, it will usually have a color parameter on it to indicate the presence of moisture. sometimes pulling a vacuum for 30 min will cure the prob. I would try pumping it down for at least 45min if you suspect a prob with the exp valve. your gauges will tell you if the exp valve is bad by the reading you get when the system is running.

When I turn on the air conditioner it is blowing hot air as if the heater were on. Could it be a fuse? It was working fine yesterday.

heater core is going bad my dodge ram truck did the same thing for about three months then steam startedcoming out of the vents it was antifreeze i have not fixed it yet i just bypassed it for now cause its hot and i have to take the dash completly out to get to it, and yes my airconditioner was blowing out hot now immediatly after i bypassed it blows cold again.you have to find where it goes into the motor on both sides so follow the hoses from firewall then buy a 3ft hose to go from one side of motor to the other problem fixed! well that is you wont have a heater until you change the heater core

Ac blowing ht air, compressor not coming on

Check the fuses/relay for the compressor. If good, bypass the pressure switch. If the compressor comes on, there is too little internal pressure. Have the system evacuated and recharged. If the compressor does not come on, it could be bad.
