CarGurusAug 16, 2011 - car won't start - replaced ignition lock on 2002 pontiac sunfire antitheft light is ... system goes into fail safe mode and you won't have any more problems. ...lock cylinder on 2003 pontiac sunfire....when new lock cylinder was ...
Security light lit on the instrument cluster ? It should have anti-theft system . No , can't just remove it . It has componets - key lock cylinder housing , software programmed into control modules etc... If you just removed or disconnected the pass lock sensor the pcm -engine computer would not see a coded message ,so it would disable fuel injectors an maybe starter . Your best bet ,have a qualified repair shop diagnose it .
If your starter isnt 'clicking' suspect bad starter relay, possible bad starter solonid, could be a dead battery, could be an open circuit between the ignition and the starter relay. Start with checking the battery, then the relay, solonoid, then check wirining and connections.
Yes, it could be the Neutral safety switch. Try popping the clutch a few times. Push it in and let it pop out and make sure you have it in Neutral. Also, try jumping the vehicle. It is possible to have all the volts in the world and everything looks good but not have enough amperage in the battery due to a dead cell to crank the motor over.
Check the battery connections, and clean them, also check the battery to make sure it has 12 volts, and have it load tested. If this was at all, helpful, please rate, thank you.
first you should double check to make sure the batteries are installed correctly ,then get the new car manual out of the glove box ,and check for the reprogram procedure for your remote . every car manufacture has there own procedure , example,I have 03 mustang mach 1 the procedure goes something like this.turn key to on position..put drivers side window up then down open and close driver door then turn lights on and off then radio on off and so on
I would try the battery, it sounds like it has enough juice to power the lights, but not everything else. You can take the battery to a local parts store and they can test it at no charge.
turning left and stalling sounds like your power steering pressure switch is bad.as for other problem try unlocking drivers door using the key this should reset the factory alarm. also make sure you didn't miss a wire when reconnecting bat. look for 12gauge red wire near bat. this goes to computer if not connected car will crank but not start.
