02 Nissan Sentra GXE, 5speed. Turn the key, the engine cranks, but doesn't fire. I tried pulling the fuel pump fuse out, and tried starting like that to see maybe if the system was flooded, but no start still. Spark plugs would be the next thing to check, but how do I get access to them, and what am i looking for? Anything else that can be done?

The fuel pump works fine, checked the sound. The Check engine light is NOT on. How can I check if its a crankshaft/camshaft problem?
Could it be a spark plug issue as well?

Fuel pump is working, verified by the sound. CEL light is off. How can I make sure if its a crankshaft/camshaft issue?

Also, please read the added comment to the question.

I had a friend tow the car for a few hundred meters, and with the key in the On/Acc position, I cycled through gears 1 and 2 and let go of the clutch. This indicated a little more than a 1000 rpm on the car while i was being towed. We stopped, and I turned the key, and the car started fine!

Now i'm thinking is it just something that the engine needed to burn off w/out fuel, and having the engine turn without actually running it helped achieve the state?

FIRST U NEED TO MAKE SURE THE FUEL PUMP IS COMING ON IF U THINK ITS A FUEL PROBLEM. WHEN U TURN THE KEY TO THE ON POSITION LISTEN FOR 3 SECOND HUM. THIS MAY BE A CRANK OR CAM SENSOR PROBLEM. DO U HAVE A CHEK ENGINE LAMP

2004 Nissan Sentra SE-R Cranks but won't start!

It could be the fuel system.
It could either flooding or starving for fuel.
If injectors are fouled badly it will wet the plugs and not fire.
If plugs are pitted that makes it easier to flood. (check plug tip condition, check all plug wires and boots are good)

If it is starving -- fuel pump weak (going to fail).
Need to test fuel pump pressure.

02 Nissan Sentra gxe 1.8 engine turns but will not start

Check for fuel and if getting fuel check for spark as it is a problem that you will have to run down disconnect your fuel supply from engine and crank if fuel pumps out then its most likely spark then you must track it down are you getting spark at plugs if not then check your cap and rotor if so check your wires it is in there somewhere I cannot give you direct answer without looking at the car.

Turn ignition switch and it wants to start but will not. Tried the batter, looked at the fuses and we cannot find the problem. 2002 Nissan GXE

Fuses will not keep car from running. Battery is fine if the car cranks over and almost starts. You need to look if you have fuel to the engine, spark to fire the gas, and if the timing belt is there or broken.

My daughter car :Nissian Sentra 2002. GXE 14.8 troubling starting

The pump does have a filter on it but you should also have an inline fuel filter somewhere underneath your car, Check the pump when you turn the ignition key on the pump should run for a second or two then shut off if you can hear it , it is working. It is rare for a vechicle not to have an inline fuel filter but there are some models that don't have one. The filters on the pumps usually don't stop up that often,it's pretty rare.I would try to replace the inline filter call and ask your local part store if they have one for it and you will know for sure. And usually if the crank sensor is bad it won't crank at all.

Unusual starting problem, Nissan sentra '96 GXE 179K

Probably not because the tool reads if the injector is getting pulsesw, not if it is sealing correctly when off. I'd try to take a look at the spark plugs to see if any have fuel on them after you crank once in no-start. "On the floor" likely would take longer because injectors are adding fuel while you are trying to remove it.
