Question about 2002 Nissan Altima
My 2009 Nissan Altima has a water leak on the passenger side. It's not a clogged air filter or hose because it takes water on when the car is turned off and just sitting there while it's raining. We've tried running water on it while someone lays on the floor looking for water and can't find the source. The Nissan dealer says they farm this work out to a water doctor and that the repair might not be under warranty. Car's never been in an accident. Can anyone offer advice?
I also have a 2009 Nissan Altima and after sitting or driving in the rain the entire back floorboards are soaked. I took it in last year and supposedly they replaced a "plug". Unfortunately the repair was done at the end of the rainy season so everything seemed to be okay. Fast forward to this seasons first real rain and again soaked floorboards. I went back to the dealership very frustrated with the whole situation. This time they had had my car for 4days and I was told that the HVAC box was leaking due to a clogged line. The line was cleared and sealants used on certain areas. The service advisor is confident that this will take care of my problem. I'm not so confident since my HVAC system was not in use when the car was just sitting there filling up with water. Wish me luck. I am curious how many 2009 Altima's are having this problem and if Nissan is just trying to avoid some sort of recall notification. Very dissapointed 1st time Nissan owner.

As a former certified nissan service advisor, i would say that if it has a parts defect then there is no way that it will nat be covered under warranty. I have seen the sunroof drain on several cars be kinked at the lower end near the kick panel. try opening the sunroof and pouring a small amount of water in the drain hole at the corner of the opening. Also, i have seen where the insulation for the door wiring harness soaks up water then spills out onto the carpet. as long as you are under the 36k mile mark and have not been in an accident, then this is absolutely a warranty repair. if th dealer will not fix it then try another dealer or ask for the regional service rep.

Do you have sunroof? Well here are drain lines that run down the pillar to the fender and out. Chances are the drain or tube is clogged/pinched and it is backflowing into your headliner (yikes!).
So for those still seeking, here is the fix: 1. Remove the column cover and you can then see the drain tube. As it is clear, you can see if it is full or not. It should not be full. Dont yank on it or it will disconnect and totally drain into your dash. 2. Wipe up under the fender nearest the door and underneath. Now go back to column and unclip for the lowest clamp and gently move it around and pinch tube until it drains, you can see it draining to the ground if the hose is connected correctly. Put cover on and try not to pinch tube. This can happen when installing a dash cam power line. 3. Now you can leave it there and that should be fine, but you can get into it by removing the tire and the wheel skit and visually inspecting the hose. It has to bend so it can naturally pinch there. You could cut the line and put in metal 90 degree bend or try cutting and inserting a stint. Anyways, the bug or whatever is clogging the sunroof drain is most likely there.
Whatever you do, do NOT let the car mildew. Dry it out.
