That generally means the transmission, and most likely the PNP switch are malfunctioning.

You can typically limp it along by pushing the button on the shifter and moving it from "1" to "P" back and forth a few times in rapid succession, but ultimately you need to replace the PNP switch.

The OEM switch is about $170 and the aftermarket part is about $70. For this sort of thing, I'd use the more expensive factory part.

They're available at FCPGroton, IPDUSA and eEuroparts and other places.

1997 volvo s90 anti-theft system reset

Not sure if it will work on a Volvo, but normally if the anti-theft system has been tripped just use the key to lock then unlock the door. If not, contact a Volvo dealer or local parts store for help.

you need lift the car and

Unclip HO2S lead from transmission member and oil pan and open HO2S connectors.

Remove front exhaust pipe.
Remove front heat shield.
Ensure that gear selector lever is in neutral (position N)
Loosen sensor enough to turn it sideways. Mount gauge 999 5475 on gear selector shaft outside nut.
replace sensor but you need a special tool to adjusted once you replace it.

If it happens only on turns then its the outer axle cv joint.. If it happens all the time probably something stuck in a tire. Either way have the suspension visually inspected by a technician as soon as possible.

Hi,
First off who told you it isn't a transmission problem?
I would of course check the fill level. How many miles on the vehicle? How long since the transmission was serviced? Was the transmission serviced at the dealer? Who did service it?
Right now I would check to top it off following the manual's instructions or taking it to a dealer. If you take it to the dealer you will pay more for the fluid but you will most likely be able to pick their brain while they 'test' the fluid level. Please trust the manufacturer on 99% of 'what to do' if recommended. Also ask the dealer to see if there are 'recalls' you would be amazed how much people can save looking for minor and major recalls on their vehicles.

I can almost guarantee you that the gear position sensor is bad. I've replace 30 or 40 of these on 960's for these very same complaints! If you check the codes for the transmission, it will give a 3-1-3 or P0705 code. You will however need a code reader to check this on a 1997 model.

I had the same problem, I called the Volvo Dealership and talked to the parts department. They gave me the code with the vin number of the car.

Reset radio code

local volvo dealer in Ft. Wayne called back and I gave them my vin and she gave me the code and it worked

Radiator - REMOVAL & INSTALLATION
Perform this work only on a cold engine.

Disconnect the negative battery cable.
Set the heater control to MAX heat.
Remove the expansion tank cap.
Place a suitable drain pan into position. Open the **** on the right-hand side of the engine block. Fit a hose to the **** to collect the coolant. Open the radiator draincock.
Close the drain cocks when the coolant is completely drained.
Remove the cooling fan.
Remove the cooling fan shroud.
Disconnect the upper and lower radiator hoses

On vehicles equipped with automatic transmissions, disconnect the transmission oil cooler lines at the radiator. Plug the lines immediately. Catch the spillage from the radiator in a separate pan. Some vehicles are equipped with a temp sensor on the drivers side top of the radiator, if equipped remove the connector.

Remove the radiator assembly from the vehicle.

On 850/C70/S70/V70 models, the radiator comes out the bottom of the vehicle.
To install:

Place the radiator into position and install the retaining bolts.

On automatic transmission vehicles, connect the oil cooler lines.

Install the fan and shroud.

Install the lower and upper radiator hoses.

Connect the expansion tank hose. Make sure that the overflow hose is clear of the fan and is free of any sharp bends.

Fill the cooling system through the expansion tank, with a 50 percent antifreeze, 50 percent water solution.

Connect the negative battery cable.

Run the engine until normal operating temperature is reached.

Bleed the cooling system.

Check for leaks.

Top up the cooling system, as required.

Replace the cap.

Check and top up the automatic transmission fluid level.
