What dose the code p1740 mean ? I have a 2001 dodge ram 2500 v8 . I was driving it the other day and my check engine light came on with the code .

P1740 DODGE Torque Converter Clutch or Overdrive

You are having a Transmission Issue. There is a known issue with the TCC Lock-Up Solenoid. Once you Clean and Replace the Solenoid, your problem will go away (95% sure)

refers to the torque converter clutch servo/solenoid
it is not a faulty transmission but a simple replacement part or wire harness connection problem
if you leave it the end result will be no gear selection as nothing will happen in drive or reverse

have alternator tested

I have never seen P0000 but P1740 is a standard autotrans code it should have another code with it,P1740 just tells you that the fault is in the automatic transmission.

I had the same code on my 2001 dodge 2500. The truck wouldn't shift from 3-4. I pulled the trans pan off and replaced a broken spring ($2.00). It is behind a thin plate with 3-4 small torq screws. You don't have to remove the valvebody. Only took me 45 minutes to fix.

The transmition is slipping, dodge trucks are noted for their tranny problems, I just replaced mine ($2400)bearly over 100,000 miles on the truck. Watch the engine temp if you keep driving it. It may start to over heat. Get it to a reputable transmition shop ASAP,Some place that garentees/warentees their work.
As for the heat/AC I would check for vacuum leaks. Get either a Hanes or Chilton's manual for it and it will tell you how to check the system.
