If you get it scanned at AutoZone no need to post the codes here. AutoZone will look up the codes and tell you the three most probable causes and print them for you, that is Free as well. Usually they can pretty well pinpoint your problem.

Your TPS(Throttle Position Sensor) & or IACV(Idle Air Control Valve) can both mess with the idling ruff and sputtering going down the road. I'll be surprised it your codes doesn't point to one or both of them.

Have the vehicle scanned for error codes at autozone, its free. Post codes for more help....These engines have issues with the COPs (ignition coils-over-plugs) failing prior to 80k miles. When they fail typical problems are: Sputtering under load/acceleration, rough idle, random misfires, random stalling, light or heavy jerking under load (usually at 15-35mph and 45-65mph)..hopefully this helps!!

1998 Ford F-150 6 cylinder. When I turn on the Air conditioning the engine idles rough.

Question edited for clarity.
Question moved to Ford F-150.

The first thing you must do is to connect a code reader and find out why the Engine Check Light is on. It is a 1998, so the information will be basic, but it is a starting point.

Sputtering engine while in passing gear

At 150000 miles the plugs start to fail under hard acceleration the higher compression blows out the spark before it ignites the fuel. Random cylinder misfire causes the check engine light to come on. change the plugs!

2005 ranger rough idle, flashing engine light & strong exhaust

first of all a flashing check engine light indicates STOP as soon as possible SAFELY.. as for if you continue to drive damage to catalytic converter may occur. Have you had codes pulled yet ? start there the codes wont tell you wrong exactly but will give you problem area to start checking out. check for data link connection. make sure it can communicate with scan tool. commonly on fords is the ecm fuse is in same power supply line as cigarette lighter.( you figure Huh.) if fuse is blown it affects ecm power supply and causes drivability issues. and fuse is labled cigarette lighter fuse and Not ECM power supply. hope this helps if not pull codes and repost more info i get the more i can help . good luck

2004 Ford Focus LX, was sputtering while driving

A flashing light is BAD. Its damaging the cat converter. I would check or replace the spark plug wires ( if all OK, then) replace the coil pack. I would not replace anything unless they test bad. but these car are known for bad coil packs.

Truck sputters and dies when you put it in drive or reverse.

Most Likely a vacume leak. Check the engine and surrounding engine bay for a loose hose. I would check the mass air sensor, make sure it is free of debries.
