You may have a key that has a transponder hidden in the plastic key head. If the security light is on, that means that you DO have an antitheft feature that is not working properly and is most likely causing your problems. Take a look at this link, it explains the security issue and some symptoms. Along with some DO IT YOURSELF solutions.
Your problem is that the theft control moduel is not reading the key code it could be a bad key or the reader inside the igntion switch is going bad if you have another key try using it for a while to see if the problem stops, if you don't have another key take your title or the registration to the GM dealer and have them cut you a new key , if the problem still keep going on you will have to replace the ingnition key reader (what is called then exciter ring) in side the steering column.
there may be a broken wire from the ignition swith going down the steering column, theres two sensors at the begining opening of switch, sometimes they get stuck and dont pop back out, in turn it doesnt touch the chip on the key and cant read it,take a look with a light use a small pic and push lightly on them and see if the y push in and pop out, if they do then replace ignition swith, theres a way to bypass, use an omh meter and measure resistance of key chip, then buy a resistor with the same value, and connenet to wires from switch under the dash, cut wires and put conecting the two going to switch with resistor connecting them together, heres a diagram,
