These cars are natural gas guzzlers. I recommend making sure the coolant/ water mixture is according to spec's as well as the thermostat. These two items control the engine temperature and this is what the ECU uses to increase fuel trim if engine is cold
or decrease fuel trim if engine is warm.
Also keep Mass Air Flow Sensor clean (it has an air temperature sensor in it)
Timely oil and air filter changes will also help .
Make sure tires are in good condition and properly inflated.
A lot of people complain about the drag while driving on highway with windows open.

The isuzu rodeo is supposed to make an average of 18 mpg and i´m getting 12 mpg

Driving habits can cause the average mpg to be lower.
Also, note that highway mpg are higher than the city mpg.
And, the posted average mileage is no guarantee that your car
will get that good mileage per gallon

That being said, it's a good idea to have tuneups performed
periodically, or to have an engine analysis performed at your dealer
or local auto service center so that you can determine what parts
need to be replaced to get optimal mileage per gallon.

Good luck to you.
