Need to replace fuel pump on a 1992 chevy truck.

The easy way is to remove the three screws at the filler neck then look under truck at backside of filler neck and remove the one bolt holding ground strap then go to rear drivers side and unhook the wire harness for the rear lights simple just one connector for lights then there is a ground wire right at the connector you just unhooked bolted to frame rail remove it on the frame along both sides you will find 4 17mm or 18mm bolts remove all 8 bolts have some friends grab bed on both sides pick up bed and walk backwards one or two feet let area in front of wheels sit on rear tire area behind wheels will sit on bumper look down right behind cab on drivers side and you will see the fuel pump in top of tank i know this sounds like a lot but believe me it,s easier than lowering that tank and having to undo lines and what not laying on ground under truck you will be able to service pump standing up in good light conditions

U 100% NEED THIS EQUIP TO DO THIS JOB, HERE IS HOW IT IS DONE, RAISE THE TRUCK UP AS HIGH AS POSSIBLE WITH THE JACK, THEN SUPPORT IT WITH JACK STANDS, PUT THE HYDRAULIC FLOOR JACK UNDER THE TANK AND JUST TAKE THE WEIGHT OFF THE TANK, REMOVE THE NUTS OFF THE BOLTS HOLDING THE TWO METAL STRAPS THAT HOLD THE TANK IN THE TRUCK, THEN CAREFULLY LOWER THE TANK AND DISCONNECT THE FUEL LINES AND THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTORS, REMOVE THE CLAMP ON THE FILLER HOSE AND THE VENT, ONCE THE TANK IS FREE OF ALL HOSES AND ELECTRICAL CONNECTORS SLOWLY DROP IT DOWN AND PULL IT OUT FROM UNDER THE TRUCK, THE FUEL PUMP MODULE IS HELD INTO THE TANK WITH A RETAINING RING, REMOVE THAT, DON'T CREATE ANY SPARKS THERE IS A HUGE CHANCE OF FIRE HERE, REVERSE TO PUT BACK TOGETHER.

You will need to drain the fuel tank as much as you can first of all for the pump is inside of it. Disconnect all fuel lines you can then disconnect the mounting strap hardware with a support under the tank for security. Next lower the tank and disconnect any other fuel lines if some were hidden. Some are on some production models such as yours. Lower the tank and remove the retainer on the top counter clockwise. The fuel pump and fuel sender are attached together. The pump has a filter sock which is advisable to replace as well. It is a nylon mesh filter to subdue contaniments. The new unit you have purchase should be complete with the sending unit. Replacing the unit is easy since they pull out and drop right in. That note at the position it sets inside before removing si the new one goes in the same way

It's a pain to remove the tank the first time because of road dirt and rust but if you take the time and wire brush as much as you can reach (hose clamps) undo the filler hose and air hose before lowering the tank you may have to cut the ground wire as well to lower it just make sure you have wire to extend the ground before you cut it
